Oh, Great feedback. Thanks so much. I think I need to spend some time, at the music store, playing some more guitars. But, does sound like maybe the T500 will do the trick after all. I didn't know that about the laminate feeding back less. Very good to know. Thanks so much for all the input.

Anybody have any input/opinion on how the T500 compares to an L5 CES in terms of quality of sound, playing enjoyment, etc? Would I be "that much happier" if I waited to find an L5 at around $6k than if I paid $3500 for the T500? I've never played an L5 but my guitar teacher has a Super 400 which definitely has a lovely "bellow" that the T500 doesn't have. Trying to figure out if the incrementally improved "bellow" would be worth the wait and double the price. Plus, I do like just holding a bigger guitar (like my ES-150). Thanks again for all the good input.

I own both, a GSR T-500 and a L5 CES. Completely different guitars. I don't even know where to start a comparison. To me, the T-500 is a bright sounding Rock 'n Roll guitar, the L5 CES a full and warm sounding Jazz guitar although obviously both guitars can cover both styles. But both really shine in their own territory. I didn't like the T-500 pickups, put some Bare Knuckel Blue Notes in it and I'm happy with the results. The guitar sounds wonderful acoustically, much brighter than the L5 and maybe even louder. The laminated spruce top fantastic but it's also too soft for the Bigsby. My T-500 already has a bruise in the wood beneath one of the pressure points of the Bigsby, so use the Bigsby with care if you buy one. Thought about putting a harp tailipiece on it. I like Bigsbys but not this one, it's kind of squeaky and feels cheaper than it should. But maybe that's just me. And one more thing, the Gibson neck is a lot chunkier, just like the body. The T-500 feels fragile in comparison. Hope that helps. Good luck on your quest.

Oh, very interesting. Wow! I've learned so much from this forum. I played the T500 quite a bit more and even went to Guitar Center just to play the new Gretsch's for comparison. Can't quite put my finger on it but, the Gretsch's, although nice, somehow seem "cheap" compared to the T500. Maybe it's just all that "finger nail polish" finish. Anyway, I really started to appreciate the Guild even more after coming back from GC. Also did some snooping around on Youtube and found a demo o a '66 Duane Eddy 500 which sounded awesome. Then, when I played mine, for comparison, I was very pleased to note that the sound wasn't far from the '66. Very cool. Interesting about the Bigsby. This T500 has a Guild "bar" on it that screws in and sticks way out and doesn't swivel. So, really don't like that and was thinking, the first thing I'd do would be to put a Bigsby on it. I guess you are saying that the Bigsby can dent the top wood (which I notice is very soft since it already has a small ding in it). So, yeah, that's kind of a bummer. But, I guess it doesn't damage it structurally or soundwise? Hmm.. ok. I'll have to do some more investigation on that. Thanks again.

They should be able to swap just the arm back out for an original swivel arm shouldn't they? If so you can pick up a new swivel arm for a lot cheaper than an entire new unit.

Yeah, if that's what's going on, absolutely, though he'll need both the arm and the swivel mount that attaches to the roller (also wouldn't surprise me if both were in the case).

That guitar belongs to a Merle fan. I'm a big Merle fan. I'll shortly post some scans of Merle and his Boyd Vibe :)

Hey Guys, last night I found a youtube video with a guy playing what I think is a '60's X-400. Basically looks almost identical to the T500 except for the wider body. I fell in love with it. Anybody know anything about that model? I'm wondering what the difference is between that and the X-500. Couldn't seem to find much on Google. In fact, it seems maybe the X-400 is actually quite hard to find.
