I use D'Addario PBs extra lights (yeah, I'm a woose...) on my D55, their EXPs in the same string for my GAD30R which I play on the beach all the time, and DR Rare PB lights on my f-312. I remember when I got my first D55, in 1974, they came with Guild Phosphor bronze strings, first time I'd played PBs and I've loved them since them. I think maybe the original strings were Guild L350s.

I use John Pearse PB Bluegrass (650) on the DV4, PB Silk (610LM) on the DV52, 600L or 200L on the F47; Thomastik Plectrum on the JF30 and JF30-12;

I like less fancy strings, uncoated, 80/20, light (12) gauge. Martin or D'Addarios are fine. When they are about 3 days old they sound the best to me.

I prefer cheaper strings and to change them more often.

I'm beginning to think that I might try a set of these on my GAD30.

The lights seem to be lacking something and a lot of it has to do with not only the sound but the feel of the strings on my fingers. :? Go figure.

WTH, I can always change them.

Well I guess I am way off the reservation but in my quest for perfect strings I put some Thomastik-Infeld Plectrum Bronze 12 String Acoustic Guitar Strings on the wonderful JF30-12 that I got from Sandy. I can only say WOW what a difference. I had ordered several sets of strings to try and this was the third set I have tried. These have brought out more of the beauty this guitar has. Now mind you I hate saying how wonderful the guitar is as Sandy will want it back and it ain't going no where  but these really improved its already wonderful sound. It is warm and they removed some of the tingle tinny sound the others had. Not sure its the silk in the strings or what but they are defiantly worth the god awful price. If I were a stage player and let me say if I was ever on stage it would be the 3:00PM Stage out of town :D this would be what I would use. I will finish my quest and try the rest I have bought but only after these go dead. Why fix what's not broken. I also wanted to say unless I find some unknown to me strings these will be what I play. They also have a great feel to them. They are worth the price.

So says me Popeye the Sailorman TOOT TOOT !!

You gotta love them Thomastik Plectrums on JF30s!
The won't last for years, but you get 100% sound from your guitar.
You can of course go for good coated strings for longer live, but you get less sound as a trade-off. :(

Whoa . . . those T-I strings are $38 per set.

Some strings in that set are flatwound, so fewer finger squeaks & a more-mellow tone should be expected.

Yepp, they are not cheap, even here where they make them.
(Right now they are about 30 USD for 12er sets and 17 USD for 6 strings.)

Isn't that something. I'm the same way with my D30. Least expensive guitar in the bunch, and it gets the most expensive strings out there. There's just something about Plectrums with maple to me. Give me JP's on everythings else.....200l's.

I do have a set of JP's to try on the Twelve but that will wait a while.

I've already posted my answer but I'm wondering if I shouldn't have just asked, "What kind of guitar do you use for your strings". My answer would be my D25 because I can always count on it to give a true evaluation of whatever strings I put on her. Her? Yep, she always tells me what she thinks.

Another vote for D'Addario EXP's - ion all of my guitars. I usually use 16's, but I also like the 26's (11-52) and 19's (12-53). I used to use the EJ's until I discovered the EXP's. I have a few sets of EJ and I still use them too.

I've tried John Pearse, DR Rare, Martin SP, Dean Markley, Elixir, and a few others, but I always come back to D'Addario strings. Based on what I've been reading here, I am kind of curious about trying Ernie Ball and GHS strings. I always use Phosphor Bronze. I've tried 80/20's and didn't really like them.

This thread sure points out that not much is more personal than choice of strings! I'm typically an 80/20 player but recently I've been trying a different type of strings every time I change them. Right now I'm playing D'addario EXP light phosphers. Even though I usually use 80/20, D'addario strings seem to be so consistently excellent that I thought maybe I didn't take to phosphers because I hadn't tried D'addario phosphers and I wanted to throw a coated string into the mix. So far I like them but I'm not sure if I'll stick with them or go back to 80/20.
Anyway, strings that I've liked in my recent experimenting are D'addario 80/20, GHS Vintage Bronze (85/15) and D'angelico 80/20 - all light guage. The D'addarios seem to be the most impressive overall with really great balance and "blend" on the chords.

I believe much depends on the guitar, and especially the woods with which the guitar is constructed.

I've been following this thread, and it made me think about my acoustic strings more than I usually do! jgmaute mentioned using "extra lights", which I use on my electric (D'Addario EJ20), and geoguy reminded me of the D'Addario "custom lights" (EJ26).

So I tried the D'Addario "custom lights", but in the PB version (EXP26). I really like them! The D64 rings out just as much as with the EXP16's, but I find the slightly smaller gauge on all but 2 strings makes it easy to play - especially single note runs. I don't fingerpick much, and these strings work really nice with a pick.

I learned a lot through this thread!
