Howdy,

First time post'er looking for information on the type of finish Guild used in the late 1980's on their acoustic basses. I have a 1987 B-30E that has some finish cracking and was hoping to find out the specific type of finish used (nitrocellulose, urethane, etc.) before attempting any repairs.

Thanks!

Hello and welcome to the LTG, Flint!

99% sure it would have been nitrocellulose. Like all their acoustics. Still, I am not a bass person, really, but there are several on LTG who will chime in soon, I am sure...

Just remembered, if you've got any doubt at all, try some acetone (nail polish remover) on a small area like under a tuner. Acetoone dissolves NC but not the poly finishes.
Also, NCL glows a sickly green under UV. It's awesome. :D

Thanks Gents. Your replies are much appreciated. I will try the UV light trick to confirm. :)
