Only Hans knows for sure, but my educated guess is that that is a neck HB1 with a replaced cover.

Neck because in the 2,1 screw configuration the two is on the bass side which puts the pole pieces closest to the neck which makes it a neck PU. That I get, but what makes you think the cover was replaced? Thanks.

in the book there is no mention of any Guild humbucker other than the hb-1 and the mini-Humbuckers...so thats why I think GAD is assuming the cover was changed. I don't think guild used that type of cover on any of their full sized buckers but i could be wrong.

I believe it's a neck humbucker because all the bridge HB1s I've pulled have had an extra tab for coil tapping or phase inversion or whatever that little switch on my S300 does. :)

I believe it's been recovered because I've never seen an HB1 without the double ridge cover like the ones in my pic below.

Like I said though, only Hans knows for sure. Maybe there was some limited time where they came with regular covers that I don't know about. Honestly, now that I think about it, I wonder if the bobbins would easily fit in another cover. I know the covers are wider... Are the bobbins? That makes me wonder if the pickup had an issue in the past and was rewound. Hmm...

Is the similarity in cover to the Hagstrom bass PU that was briefly used by Guild and discussed here at all relavent? Guild used them on basses during the transition from the Hagstrom bi-sonic to the Guild himbucker. Maybe there was also a transitional guitar PU as well (even though Guild basses and the corresponding guitars don't always get updates at the same time).
