To me, the price seems very good and I think it takes into consideration the holes, a minor issue IMO. I believe the price recently dropped from around $2250. I'm a little prejudiced... it's the only one that color I've seen, but in any finish X500s under 2K are uncommon.

yeah but unfortunately it's sold apparently. Not sure why he emailed me back...When I followed up he told me it was sold [again]

Thanks. I had already emailed Jay about the one you just linked to. Regarding the X175 is it just an X500 with rosewood board?

Oh, i see it's got a mahogany neck too. What's a good price on one of those?

Thanks for your help!

I'm sure other LTG'ers will correct me if I'm wrong, but an X-175 is an X-500 without the gold hardware (all else is the same).

Guilders,

First of all, Carlo Greco left Guild in 1977, hence 1977 as the cut-off date for Mousts's old testament. The mystery jazzer of New York might feel that '78 was the last year that was under Greco's influence, and indeed some '78s were built in '77.

The pics that jzucker just posted are not from Jay Pilzer. They were taken a couple of years ago by the guy who owned the guitar back then. jucker doesn't specify who sent him the pics, or when or why.

Only jzucker and Pilzer know what was in the emails. But even if we take jzucker's account as accurate without hearing from Pilzer, we might surmise that Pilzer was offering to send more pics or other data for informational purposes--to help somebody out even though Jay had sold the guitar.

As Capnjuan says, once a guitar is sold, it doesn't necessarily stay sold. Sometimes a buyer sends a deposit and then backs out. In addition, it is often on hold while it is in transit and then for a day or two more so the customer can decide if it's a keeper. So jzucker might have been in touch with Pilzer while the sale of this guitar was in process.

Maybe there's a worry the cat's out of the bag?
It's unclear who is worrying, what the cat is, and what the bag is.

jzucker, I wrote the above in third person so I wouldn't be talking about you but rather the guitar. This is a situation that everybody here had to learn about. We don't expect anybody to know all of this ahead of time.
So I'd like to welcome you to LTG, which is the best place to find out about Guilds and to interact with a group of nutty people. And believe, we have some big nuts here.
