Interesting article, but I question the writer's accuracy in saying that Jimmy Page played a Guild 12-string on "Over the Hills and Far Away". That's a pretty specifc claim with no evidence! I'm not really a Page expert, but I always understood him to have most likely played his Harmony Sovereign H1260 12-string on that song.

We've had a similar discussion about Page and Guild before with no definitive conclusion...

I was under the impression that he had retired his Harmony Soveirgns after Led Zeppelin III.

Plus he did do Guild ads as well.

I dunno, that doesn’t resemble Jimmy Page in that ad, where does it say that’s Page?

Maybe it is Tim Buckley. It's so low in pixels per inch I can't tell but was listed as Jimmy Page in the ebay ad I grabbed it from.

I could be wrong, but I think that clip of Tim Buckley is from the episode of The Monkees on which Frank Zappa appeared, and that the vehicle behind him is the smashed older car that FZ demolished while "Mother People" played in the background.

Here's the clip:

sorry to hijack this thread but I couldn't resist - plus FZ did own a Guild (not a 12-string) :)

Boneman, I wouldn't advise medium gauge strings on your 12-string tuned to pitch. You're fine with light or extra lights.

I believe it's @awagner who tunes to pitch on his (longer-scale) F-612, but I don't think he's using med. gauge. In any case, I wouldn't advise it.
I think I must have had Mediums on my JF30-12 (only has 6 strings on it now but I need to change that soon), but mediums on a 12 are 12-52, not 13s, lights on a 6 string are 12-53 - a bit confusing!!

Might have to try different gauges on the 12. Already thinking that I should drop down from 13s to 12s on the 6 string guitars.

After I saw this performance of Leaving on a Jet Plane by John Denver, I was convinced I had to have a 12 string, and chose to buy my Guild F212XL.

A couple of years ago an F612 came up on Reverb, asking about $7000, and I hesitated about an hour, one click and it could have been mine, but by then it was gone.

Tom Petty joined the ranks long ago with his D-212Ms, had 2! Worthy of his own LTG thread here somewhere. Peace

BTW, I don't think I've ever seen that before - a soundhole cover and a soundhole pickup used together...

I was told by a retired Guild employee that the F612 were made in a total of 3 batches, 6 guitars in each batch for a total of 18 manufactured. The scale length is 26.5.

I doubt those production numbers are correct, SL50045. I suspect there were quite a few more. But, yes, scale length is correct.
