hey there,
i own a S300.
On the trussroad cover it says only "S-300".
However on the cover plate of the electronic it says "S-300 D-WAL".
According to the SN it was made in '78.
It doesnt have the dimarzio pickups. Its got the Guild PUs.

The color looks like walnut.
But I am not sure if by "WAL" is meant that the wood is walnut. It doesnt sound like a regular mahagony i think.

Does anyone know, if those were made out of walnut and what the "D" on the electronic cover plate could mean!?

I'm also looking for some pickup replacement advices, since the stock one sounds to bluesy to me. I need one fitting to rock or harder music.

Im greatful for any help and infos!

thank you already!

Hi, stillstand. Welcome to LTG!

I believe the "WAL" refers to finish color and the wood should be mahogany.
Hard to say about the pickups. "D" usually means DiMarzio, but if you are not the original owner they could have been replaced.
As an S300 (no "D") the Guild humbuckers would be standard, so it could also be a typo on the label.

My S300-AD came to me with one DiMarzio and one Guild humbucker, no idea if that was factory original or not.

WAL usually refers to a walnut finish. My JS II bass has a walnut finish on a mahogany body.

Probably just a factory oversight on the label. If you're looking to get rid of the HB-1s, I've got a set of Seymour Duncan (JB/Jazz) pickups that may fit the bill. PM me if you want to try to work out a deal.

"D" would stand for DiMarzio. PAF at the neck and a Super Distortion in the bridge position.

Have fun,

uuuh, sorry for being late....
thanks so much for all your answers!

it says on the back of the bridge PU "Guild Made in USA". so they cant be Dimarzio. OK.

about the wood. its stranges. It sounds so different (unplugged) combared to my other mahagony S-300,
but the wood looks quiete mahagony like.

thank you for your help!
