One of the greats for sure, sadly never recieved the attention he deserved.
Sure wish I would have gotten out to see him, and met him. He was great at so many types of music.
Back in the summer of 1987, I heard "Gatemouth" was coming to northern Minnesota and was going to be playing at the Jackpine Junction Bar. The place was no less than 20 miles from the nearest town and they had a kind of a makeshift outdoor tent/pavilion thing there. So I packed up my tent and sleeping bag and made the 50 mile backroad trip over there. I don't think I've been to a better party. His high energy Texas/Louisiana style blues absolutely rocked the place and his interaction with the crowd was amazing. The man had the longest fingers I've ever seen. His reach on the fret board was just incredible.
