Hey —

It's been a little while since Yamaha took over, and I haven't heard about how it's going there.

But at Acoustic Guitar Forum someone just posted: "Yamaha takes a lot of pride in the whole of their guitar line, from the least to the most expensive. This has been my experience. Hopefully, Yamaha can breathe some life into Guild, which would be super!"

I've no reason to complain about Yamaha buying the company, but I hadn't heard the Guild needed new life breathed into it.

Did it? Does it? Let me know what you think and what you know, and I'll pass your comments on to the poster. Thanks!

Please don't pass my comments along elsewhere, Charlie. I have no interest in that. But, thanks for asking, as I'm happy to express some opinions.

Yamaha as a corporation could bring a lot to Guild. However, the Yamaha Guitar Group division, which now includes Cordoba Music Group (which itself includes Guild) is a fairly new creation and it is still not at all clear (to me) what YGG wants to do with Guild.

I don't accept the premise that Guild needed new life breathed into it. But, since the move to Cordoba after 2014, fans like many of us have had some serious gripes and I would say that we've been unheard... Cordoba has made no real effort to reach out to us, so that's small surprise. There's a lot more to say, but I prefer not to speculate. Like I said, Yamaha could be good for Guild... We'll see.

We have a thread that was tracking a lot of the thoughts on this subject Charlie. If you haven't read through it, you might want to:

Probably the same people who thought Guilds left the US around the time Fender bought them.

Thanks, Chaz. I read the thread when it was new but haven't looked at it since. I'll take a look and see what the street is saying.

Honestly, I'd rather have a foreign parent company making guitars in the US than an American company making guitars offshore. (I for one, only have any interest in domestic made Guilds, no matter who owns them..(.the rest are Squiers to me. Not "real" Fenders!)
