I have an Alvarez Yairi Masterworks CYM 95 Classical Guitar. Great guitar, I refer to Yairi's as Japanese Guilds. About 15 years ago, my new guitar teacher had a middle of the road Yairi. When he played, the sound floored me. I think I had my Martin 00-28C that day, it couldn't compare. I remember going home, getting on CL and finding one like his out in Oregon. From that day, I have had a least one. Like my Guilds, I worked my way up the ladder, buying and selling to get the one I wanted.

Yairi Alvarez guitars are high-quality instruments. I've owned a DY 87 TBK for over 30 years. It was my workhorse for teaching and gigging.
If you have never played a Yairi, I would encourage you to find one and try it out.

I lucked onto an Alvarez Yairi DYM75 on Craigslist several years ago.

Lots of DYM70s (spruce top) out there but the DYM75 (western red cedar top) was only briefly available. One of the best sounding guitars I own.

I'm curious about JYM series (jumbo body) too, but man, they're pricey, and I've never seen one in a store to try out.

I'd like to try one of their new all-mahogany models out, but they're quite spendy (at least for me!) :)
