I think every decade goes a little crazy with a new technology and then settles down a bit. 50s/60s with tremolo and Farfisa organ sounds, the late 60s with the wah-wah pedal, the 80s with chorus, the drum machine craze, all synth bands, etc

But for electric guitar, it seems that distortion and reverb never quite go out of style.
Don't you wish autotune was more like wah-wah, and less like distortion in this regard?

Autotune is an amazing technology that was abused by Cher and then became a thing where people wanted that awful sound.
Agreed. But it continues to be abused everywhere there is 'pop music.' A full quarter century since that first transgression. You would think/hope that the novelty, like with whole-mix flanging, would have worn off within six months.

I think it probably sounds best with a baritone, rather than a standard scale length.

I bought my Deluxe Reverb because it had Tremolo (well for way more reasons than that, but it was a solid selling point for me). I was going to post the Johnny Marr / How Soon Is Now video... when I heard the cassette in the late 80s. A girl I was beginning to hook up with popped it into the Blaupunkt system of my Renault Fuego Turbo and cranked it up as we headed from her folk's house to the gathering of the evening. Wow, I was blown away. Sure that is WAY more than just an amp based Tremolo, but it is in the ballpark.

I avoid chorus... my preferred modulation is the Phaser (I use clone of the 70s Maestro), but I am dying to get my hands on a Pulsar from Dawner Prince (very cool and specific Pulse Tour David Gilmour rotating speaker simulator)
