But this is one is not for me. I came across a deal on Craigslist and I snapped it up. This will go to my niece who is learning on a very bad plastic Applause guitar shaped object. I have been looking to find her some thing affordable that played well. The strings were horrible that were on it when I bought it and would not even hold tune, but I could tell that it had some potential. Came with two packs of these Ernie Ball strings that I have never used before but they sound good! Also a very decent hard shell case. It ain't no D40 but this is a nice little unit! Has a nice full sound and is very resonant. It is a very light guitar. My wife said it looks cool. It has an arched back, which I did not realize at first. No bracing inside on the back. It seems to be a loud guitar for its size, projects very well! This would be great for sitting on the front porch with. It will go to it's new home Sunday!

Fabulous! Let us know your niece's reaction, please! Does she know or is it a surprise?

Good move, very nice of you. How many students lose interest in playing due simply because of a piece of crap starter guitar?

You're a great Uncle! The daughter of a good friend took a shine to my OM240, and it has been living with her ever since. Might be the best student grade guitar out there.

Good move, ToneBone88. Thanks to Sandy, I picked up one of those same guitars. I was duly impressed, so much so that I actually composed a song on it. It was *that* inspiring of an instrument.

That's awesome Christopher! I've come close to buying another, but my Seagull SWS Maritime SG is the ultimate cheap guitar. It's even already perfectly beat up.

Pretty guitar. Have you ever compared it to a regular S6 with cedar/cherry?

I've not had the chance, but it compares quite favorably to my Gibson WM45, at less than 1/5 the cost.

It's a bit beat up, and that crack (now properly cleated) is pretty ugly, but you forget all about it when you start playing it.

The "200 series" guitars are all arched back guitars. They are made in China. The color is called "Antique Charcoal Burst". That OM-240CE comes also with a Guild/Fishman GT-1 pickup with Volume and Tone controls. The guitar has a Solid Sitka Spruce top and laminated mahogany sides and arched back. The fingerboard material is Pau Ferro.
You can find all details on the Guild webpage:

Great opportunity for her to grab on to the enthusiasm of the moment. Way to go, TB. Wishing her continued interest.

I squandered a similar opportunity as a 15 yr old. It's all 'catch up' now for me.
