Actually I like their version a whole lot too, it even borrows from Harvey Mandel's cover of Charlie Byrd's immortal "Christo Redentor", but it always gets all the attention.
The Byrds version was actually the first version I ever heard and never forgot that riff.

Hans confirmed above, it is a F-612. But also the "F-512 Spec" model used the same fretboard inlays.

Actually, my understanding is that those inlays were standard on the early F512 examples. My 1970 F512 has them and is not a “Special.”
