Doing some server upgrades

Doing some server security patches and upgrades, so if you happen to be online at almost 1am Eastern time and the site seems funky, that's why. I'll update when done.

Well THAT sucked!

Sorry for the downtime. This is why I hate upgrades.

For the tech-minded, upgrading Linux broke mysql which is the database that is the backbone of both this site and my blog. After an hour of troubleshooting I had to completely nuke mysql and reinstall it after which everything came back.

Phew! I'm going to bed.

Decided to be a glutton for punishment and upgraded Xenforo. Hey, it needed to be done.

Some weirdness in the composer window...

Some stuff is broken. Argh... Looks like some formatting/CSS stuff and the galleries.

3:30am. OK that's better.

The composition window seems to have changed a bit, but at least not it looks right.

I'm going to bed. Please report any problems here.

While LTG seems to be working, there are still some back-end things broken, so you may notice brief outages if I need to reload.

Got a house to look at so needed to be up on time.

I’m hoping there’s a way to change what needs to be expanded (3 dots) and what doesn't because I don’t like the new hidden smileys.

The Admin conundrum. I really should update, but the update could break something.

I loathe upgrades. All vendors expect you to be running the latest code all the time but I have auto updates turned iff everywhere because otherwise I’d spend all my time fixing things that broke during upgrades.

The real issue is the fact that the longer you wait the worse it gets but I’m just stubborn that way.

Gary, you are the best! What dedication to us Guild Geeks to stay up all night doing things I don’t pretend to understand. BTW, you spell check seems to be broken, too. You keep typing mysql. That’s not a word. Guess you can work on that, later.

Heh - MySQL is the right capitalization, though mysql is how it's done at the linux command-line. The world of linux has a lot of "words" that don't exist. Here's an actual command for ya:

vmstat 1 1 | tail -1 | awk '{util = 100 - $15 ; printf("%3s%", util)}'

So the button toolbar on the top of the content creation window (where you type replies and stuff) is definitely editable. It also changes based on how wide your screen is, which is kind of cool, that does make it tougher to manage on the server side. I'll need to mess with that a bit. Maybe after a nap.

I’m guessing you do this at night(in America) because most of the members are living here. I can’t speak for everyone, but if you took the site down in the middle of the day for a few hours once in a while so as to not have to stay up all night, I wouldn’t care. Zero inconvenience. Get your sleep. You do enough for us already. My wife should treat me this well.
