My first 12 (which was 40 years ago)was a Gib like that, and I used to look like the guy playing it. In Sacramento in the 1960's, the cheapest used pro guitars were Gibsons. For all of my joking around about Gibson flat tops, it's just that my ear doesn't hear them. I heard a new $1,500 Gib dread the other day at Guitar Center, and to me the king has no clothes or voice. But their old mandos, banjos, and electric archtops were the industry standard, and maybe still are. I still compare mandos and banjos to the sound old Gibsons.
Gordon Lightfoot was a real steady rhythm player--the Freddy Green of folk. I used to set up my stereo to try to hear what he was doing.
