There was an interesting documentary on finding the Fender Strat that Bob Dylan played the first concert he "went electric". I want to say it was a program called History Detectives or something like that.
Long story is that Dylan took a chartered plane after that concert and left the guitar in the plane. The pilot tried contacting Dylan's manager several times with no call being returned. The guitar case had the name of a rental company stenciled on it and the pilot said he got no reply from them either. So, he just stored it (he was not a guitar player himself).
So, I guess after the pilot passed away, one of his kids took the guitar somewhere and told this story and a search began to authenticate the story. The rental place was long out of business. I guess the Dylan people still weren't replying. So, this "history detective" got the idea of getting as many photos of that Dylan performance to get a good close look at the guitar. He noticed the distinctive grain on the rosewood fingerboard and it matched up. It was indeed the guitar Dylan played at the concert where he "went electric".
From there, I'm drawing a blank...
But a few moments later.... Well, thanks to the internet, here's a link to a Guitar World article that has the whole story.
The Strat was played by the folk legend at one of his most divisive shows and sold at auction for nearly $1,000,000 – but its rediscovery was met with contention, not least from Dylan himself
