So now there's a custom shop? Did I miss mention of Custom Shop in the original announcement?

What else has come from the Oxnard Custom Shop?
I'm more interested in the portion of copy that reads "...the grand return of Guild electric production to the US!":oops: I don't wanna get my own hopes up, but...

Yeah, that didn't get past us... :) Let's hope there's more in the queue, and that they're not (nearly) as expensive as this.

So it's a "phase switch". Is that different than the original vintage models' switch?

I hope that they won't be too expensive but if they are making overseas Starfire Basses for 1400-1600$ (for example) then I am sure the US made ones will be alooooooot more. So it will be out of my price range. The overseas ones already are !!!:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
The big question is...what will US made instruments do to the vintage market prices?

This "Custom Shop" was always there! It is not in the new Guild building but in the "old" Cordoba Guitars building next door. They make the Torres and Hauser models there, see the link below for other models.
"Until October 2012, when Córdoba opened its first American workshop in Oxnard, California, the company’s instruments were built in Spain, Portugal, and China. The new shop is dedicated to a recently debuted Master Series line of instruments that pays homage to the grandfather of the modern classical guitar, Antonio de Torres Jurado, as well as other luthiers instrumental in its development: Hermann Hauser Sr., Miguel Rodríguez, and Manuel Reyes. The guitars in the Master Series, overseen by master luthier Kenny Hill, are patterned closely after the originals, but sell for a fraction of the price."

Actually this picture shows two Cordoba models:

The models made there are not cheap at all, look at those prices:

Some more, also note the guitar hanging on the wall! (Edit: Seems to be a S-25 with one or both pickups changed)

The man himself at work:

"We’ve had our hands in a lot of guitars and incredible projects over the years, but this one has been especially noteworthy. It has truly been an honor to have been asked to build the pickups in Guild’s Kim Thayil Artist Edition S-100 Polara! Guild and Kim entrusted us to reverse-engineer the original HB1 pickups from the 1970s, and we all agreed that the new versions are a tremendous success, faithfully capturing the tone that helped shape Kim’s unparalleled guitar playing with Soundgarden and many others. We’re thrilled that this collaboration can finally see the light of day, and beyond stoked to have worked with Guild and Kim, whose playing and writing has been a massive inspiration to so many of us at Lollar."

One person asked on Instagram:
"Will these be available outside of the artist version of the S100?"

And Lollar answered:
"it's definitely not a "yes", but it's also not necessarily a "no" either...don't worry, if we ever release them as a normal stock item, we'll make sure to announce it. And we'll try not to make you wait...FORRR-EVVV-VERRR"
"We are open to re-winding any dead vintage HB-1 for the time being!"

Well, that's all really cool news, GG, and I didn't know that this guitar was being made in the Córdoba "Custom Shop." Given that, and all this bespoke work on what seems like entierly hand-made guitars, maybe the price isn't so unreasonable.

That's fantastic about this Lollar collaboration and the possible availability of these HB-1 pickups... I wonder what they'll call them.

I have to say, it's just a little ironic that Lollar is based in Tacoma, WA.

I emailed them and they said no. Wasn’t from Jason, though.

I wonder how Kim feels being called "the Grunge God."

Is Soundgarden's music "grunge?" Sounds more like metal to me, but I know there are a lot of variations of metal, and I don't know a lot of their music.

Anyway, this is cool. The more advertising the better. I wonder what Guild's financial arrangement with Kim Thayil is?

I think "grunge" incorporates a lot of different flavors of rock, and is almost a geographical term at this point. You have Soundgarden and AIC on the metal end of the spectrum, Nirvana was a bit more "punk", and bands like Pearl Jam were almost straight up rock / hard rock. All of them are considered "grunge" yet they have distinctive sounds.

Exactly, its all rock and roll, just one of the many flavors, and more often the labels are associated with the region the current trendy music is coming from. You had "Southern Rock" in the 70's, the "NWOBHM"(New Wave of British Heavy Metal) out of UK in the late 70s early 80s, then it was "hair metal" in LA through the 80s, and of course when Seattle bands took off in the 90s someone coined "grunge".

Soundgarden were most definitely grunge, and I believe the term applied to the Seattle sound at the time because the bands were dressed "grungy", i.e tore up jeans, flannels, combat boots. Which was quite the opposite coming on the heels of the 80s hair metal/glam scene.

I'd probably go to this if I was in the area. I first got turned onto Soundgarden sometime in 1987 or '88 visiting a friend who was attending SUNY New Paltz. I'm pretty sure they didn't call it grunge at that time, was just a new band to check out. He played me their Screaming Life/Fopp EP stuff from Sub Pop records. It blew me away, the way they played and the sounds they were creating. I felt the band name was appropriate, especially with headphones it was like being in a garden of sound. These screeching, plodding riffs and doomsday sounding guitars and yet really no flashy guitar god type solos. The vocals were insane, the way the guy could belt it out instantly impressed me. All those things hit me at once listening to this new breed of hard rock I thought oh man, this is awesome, and I've been hooked since. Its no wonder they hit it big time.

IMO I think the industry needs a new wave of rock and roll from somewhere, all this Taylor Swift, and auto-tune rap tunes are hard to listen to when you grew up listening to guitar oriented rock. I might be out of touch, I dunno, but all the rock radio stations I tune into play old classics, where is the next wave of new rock happening? Is there one?
