Guys, my $0.02... I think you should do your own donations if you like. But, I'll bring it up with the other moderators. We've done collections in the past for a member or his/her family, but it would be unusual for us to organize something like this for a charity/cause.

Sorry but the forum cannot participate in collections and we do not make donations to any cause of any kind. The only exception is for board-related needs (which comes down to paid memberships) or for a very long-standing member like we did with Dreadnut. This thread has almost been locked repeatedly by me for soliciting donations but it's been a borderline case since the posts are copies of posts from other social media. I'm still not really comfortable with it. though.

You are of course free to donate to whatever you'd like on your own.

That makes sense. Thank you and Chazmo for the fast git-back. Yup, as I said, I'll get my donation off to the museum fund soon.

My wife had a comment I liked. The museum was probably wonderful, but letting people look at a lot of memorabilia isn't nearly as valuable as creating a program that teaches and promotes roots music. The new plans they have are really an opportunity, not a tragedy. The only tragedy is that there are jerks around who'd desecrate the memory of the likes of Hurt.

Meahwhile, keep up the good work. No one will ever burn down Let's Talk Guild!

I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that people in Mississippi would burn down a museum cabin that once belonged to a talented black musician in this day and age. I guess violent racism isn't dead in the deep south yet. I thought those days were over. I guess not.

The rest of the world takes notice of racist crimes like this in the USA, and asks how these things continue to happen. It's a stain on us. Shameful.
