Just pulled the string on an 8 string squareneck from Elderly. I've been contemplating some sort of squareneck for a while, and decided to take the trade in offered for my F40 that was on consignment there and get this one. I went for 8 string over 6 because I'm more interested in swing style than bluegrass, although I guess it could do that as well. Should give me something to do next year. Except for a brief encounter with an old (no knee levers) pedal steel in the '70s and an equally brief attempt at an electric lap steel a few years ago, this will be my first real foray into steel playing. It's a Goldtone PBS8, cost me the F40 and about $45.

That's cool! I assume that goes on your lap? Or some sort of angled strap set-up?

Congrats! 8-strings and open tunings would be quite the challenge for me, but I'm sure you're up for it! :)

Congrats! My first resonator was this 7 string I bought back in 1971. No volume loss with the extra string, and I usually tune it in Am7.
You can hear it here:
