Actually Bill, Walt wrote that in 2005. Walt released it originally. Balsam Range does a rendition and released their version in 2010.

That is an enormous sound out of that big Guild, isn't it Charlie? Still when I listen, it's hard for me to believe all that music comes out one guitar.

I think it helps that he is playing a full barre F chord. That always sounds great on a Jumbo. I gotta admit that I mostly play the abbreviated version on long scale guitars!

Nah, I'm just a Walt fan Bill. He plays first Sunday every month in Luckenbach and we schedule our trips down there around Walt playing. He's also played up here a couple of times, so we've caught him up here as well. In fact, my son in law and his brother have opened a venue (restaurant/bar/amphitheatre) in Patrick Mahomes small home town this past weekend, about 40 miles from here. They already have a couple of good, old school country acts booked, and I'm going to suggest Walt.

I was always aware of the more well known Texas singer/songwriters like Steve Earle, Willie Nelson, Townes van Zandt, Nanci Griffith, Robert Earl Keen, etc, but when I got a copy of Lyle Lovett's "Step Inside This House", I was exposed to whole lot more of them (it's his homage to Texas singer/songwriters, for the uninitiated). A favorite on that one is his cover of Walter Hyatt's "Teach Me About Love"



It swings, and it's almost better than Walter's original (with Lyle in attendance).

If you're referring to Walt Richard, you can see him the first Sunday afternoon of each month right outside of Fredericksburg, Tx,. in Luckenbach.

Oh man I know Walt! I did a songwriting workshop with him and he was so kind, loved his critiques and our conversation. When he isn't on the road, he plays every Wednesday at 8pm at Saxon Pub in ATX, check it out if you're in town. Looks like in August he's only got 1 Wednesday slot. Maybe he'll go back to weekly in the fall.

And he plays Luckenbach every first Sunday afternoon I believe. Or at least he did for years. I've just looked at his schedule, but don't see him there, nor do I see him on Luckenbach's calendar. I do see him scheduled for New Mexico and Maryland.

"Trains I've Missed" is so profound to me because of the story it tells about so very many of us who go through these stages in life. I know that it's the case with me and that the transformation takes, or can take decades. We're young and rebellious, we don't care for those in authority, we don't take the time to stop and smell the roses. Then gradually, we begin to come around, we have much more of a perspective from the wisdom that comes with age. We don't sweat the small stuff, and we finally become content with where and who we are, and ultimately realizing there are things bigger than we are. My take anyway.

I've posted this before, but thought I would again. This is a much slower rendition of "Trains" delivered a bit more personally. This has deep meaning to me because in this video, Walt is doing a pitch for a fundraiser for an organization called "Pickin' for Premmies". The organization hosts/hosted a fundraiser for Cook Children's Hospital in Fort Worth, and my grandson happened to have spent his first 2 1/2 months at Cook. On one of our many visits to Cook Hospital, I learned of the "Pickin' for Preemies" fundraiser and was even able to buy a few tee shirts to support the cause. While my grandson was at Cook Children's, I remember reading in the hospital literature that the previous year, Cook had administered well over $200,000,000 in unpaid services. That money is made up for with grants, gifts and fundraisers like the one Walt is good enough to perform for.

This is a video of Walt and his wife discussing a bit of P for P and a pretty good spill for his pride in his God daughter I believe it is, and how she overcame premature birth. And ending with "Trains". Hope it plays.
