I'm a proud owner of a older bluesbird--very happy with the sound and weight BUT wondering if anyone has tried any Seth Lover pickups in their Bluesbird or any other pickup suggestions would be welcomed.

I replaced the original SH-1's with four-wire SH-1s. Replaced one of the tone pots with a push-pull pot, and wired the pickups so I can switch them to single coils with the pot. Very versatile tones.

And yes, welcome to LTG! :D :D

Welcome.

What pickups are in it? (It depends on what you mean by "older")

one of my fav combos is actually a seth in bridge, 59 in neck. esp if you can find a hotter seth (8.7 ~ 9.1) wow.
another great combo are wcr godwood bridge and a 59' neck.

As a guy who laid down his strat for a 97 bluesbird last spring, I am also really interested in hearing about pickup options. Specifically, options for getting a less hairy, more chimey sound out of my neck pick-up. It's the one strat sound I really miss (mixed with my old MXR phaser, awesomely liquid). I've tried rolling off the volume and tone, but it just doesn't quite sparkle.

Sounds like I could either go for a replacement PUP or go the coil tap route. The latter sounds easier and would keep the original HB sound accessible too. Does it really work? Thanks for the discussion so far, any additional informed advice would be great.

Thanks - AG

Works for me. :D
You can't just switch back and forth without adjusting the amp 'cause you lose a lot of volume and pick up some hum when you go to single coils. But I'm very happy with the single-coil sounds out of this.
