I share my purple berries....no one's got sick once....

probably keep us both alive....

(Tangent - it always bothered me that both the Airplane and CSN recorded the song but the credits were not the same. I always assumed someone was ripping someone else off. Many years later I learned that Kantner was involved in a dispute with the Airplane's management and not taking credit with CSN keot them from being dragged into the dispute).

There is a policy discouraging certain topics. My personal belief is that at some time in the past the moderation was heavy handed for a while and some people left and others decided to take the policy seriously. While some old members decided there were other places they would rather be, the ones that remained are pretty much self-moderating. (Which I appreciate).

I also note that we have an international membership and several non-US members have mentioned how much they appreciate not being subjected to US only concerns.

I use a green font when I get on my Moderator Soapbox because at some point something in my profile that indicate Moderator status used a green font in addition to the text. That does not seem to be true anymore but habits die hard.

There is a part of me that imagines one candidate in the US election as a banjo player and the other with an accordion but moderators are supposed to be good examples so I will stop there.

There is a LTG Facebook group that is not moderated and can have political discussions but I have not seen many there. Maybe everyone is tired of politics.

I have some too! Such a nice setting for a distillery, too.

Also, another thing that makes LTG great is the fact that LTG allows veers, and perhaps even encourages them...

So, didja know Dylan finally accepted the Nobel Prize?

walrus

Oh no!! My confidence has been shattered.
On the other hand, nobody can accuse him of not doing whatever he feels like.
In any given moment.

Predictably unpredictable...just like the weather...

With all due respect to Frono, the problem was too little moderation, rather than too much. Certain members delighted in trolling and were so obnoxious that they drove new members away from LTG. There were some really cool people who left because they did not want to deal with the nonsense, and there wasn't anyone willing to call bs at the time.

That's why there is no R&P here, because it is too divisive.

My memory of it was a period wherein the standing policies were finally enforced (I think that's what Frono meant by "heavy-handed moderation") and several members claimed "censorship".
They didn't seem to "get" that this is a private forum where the owner can set any rules he d--n well pleases.
In fairness your comment about "too little" probably preceded that period and I can understand why those folks cried "foul" when the rules were finally stringently enforced, we might even be talking about 2 different but related issues.
I think most of the people who "left", "came back", even if not as active as they once were, and I like to think that validates Don's original vision, much like Greg's story about his experience.
