Fellas, I don't know if this is the appropriate forum for this post, but I couldn't figure out where else to put it.

This has been quite a weekend. Aside from being the 47th anniversary of the first time I became a really, REALLY big pain in the rear to my mom  I had managed to wrangle five days in a row off from the coal mine. I'm on a songwriter kick at the moment and I got introduced to some great songs (even if some of them aren't my cup o' joe). I got to spend some time w/ my youngest child - who is on the cusp of graduating from high school and making her first, halting moves out of the nest.

All of that would add up to a killer weekend, in my mind. I made my wife laugh, my daughter and stepdaughter smile and I had a tub o' fun.

But this evening was something else.

Have you guys ever had a night when you just feel like you can't hit a bad note? When you're settled into your couch w/ the same guitar you've played for a few years nestled snugly in your lap and everything you play sounds right, feels right...

I started out listening to this to get into the mood for it - and try out something newish for me: (links to youtube: Dr. John - Such A Night from The Last Waltz)

I detuned the GAD-50 to double drop d and just let it rip. I have no idea what key the song is actually played in - I was more looking for the sort of "feel" that song has, if that makes sense. I'm very much an amateur, you see.

There are times when all seems right in the world. When everything seems just and good and true. There are times when you feel like the sun's about the rise and it's going to be a day of golden memory. Like the poet said, like finding a star in a haymow.

And - Like the good Doctor said - If I don't do it, somebody else will. (cue that peculiar brand of ragtime piano and pull the curtain. Goodnight, Irene)

Nope. All the notes I hit are wrong. But I have con'ed everybody into thinking that it is my style.

I jammed with a harp player and another guitarist the other night and it was real sweet. We got together with a third guitarist the very next night and nothing sounded good. Sometimes it's just the right blend of volume, attitude, and tone. And of course the song selection is very important too.

Got together with 3 co-workers for an hour after work last week. Banjo, guitar, mando & me on bass. Like your first experience, it was a fine mix of personalities and music. Looking forward to the next time :D
