I can't go down that Tori rabbit hole again. TMI warning. Was introduced to her by best friend's girl who looked just like Tori but blonde and played piano and fell madlly in love with me, semi wrecked my life, restraining order against friend to start, she moved in with me with piano and she was an evil stepmom to my kid, and 17 years younger than I, but the flesh is weak... she moved on eventually, but in my mind I'm still a little stuck back there, it's part of who I am today, and I can't look at Tori without seeing her.

That's quite a story and sounds like an album's worth of material.

She played all of Tori songs right there in my living room, like possessed and she had a lot of issues - like Tori I believe - a victim of severe abuse from Haver Montana (Tough with capital T) More TMI warnings, both her older brother and her dad had shot themselves because of things they did to her when she was young, I've never seen a more broken person carrying more grief. She was a cutter. I'm sure a lot of people here can relate.

From 1988. If Yamaha still has this kind of advertising power, it will help Guild.

Wow, Mr. Mister, a blast from the past... like this, which I'm currently evaluating whether it is a need or a want.

Just like cycles, they don't make bands like this anymore.

Small world, Yamaha bass.

There are to me many benefits. Yamaha's significant distribution network for one. In the SF Bay area, the only store selling US Guilds is a good two or three hours away. Add three more stores in every major metro area and Oxnard gets an expansion to meet demand. Yamaha has superb QC. Guild imports get moved to Yamaha production facilities. Yamaha has not been historically a buy and burn outfit like Fender and Gibson. Like Toyota, Yamaha needs a big US production presence. Everyone has to be wary of China these days. As political rifts get bigger, companies must hedge their bets. I worry about Eastman's future.

I'm a big Guild fan. I have never seen an Oxnard build. This will change, and more accessible brands will be good for the consumer.

I haven't been able to read a big part of the thread, as I had to go away for several days last week, and I might very well have missed it ; what happened with Tim Miklaucic, is he now away from the whole Cordoba Music Group, still Chairman or CEO, other ?

I spent MANY hours on my friend's red Chappy back in the 80s... I had a tricked out 175cc 2-stroke Enduro that was converted to an MX racer and another buddy had an MX80 (all Yamaha)... and a 4th buddy had a Honda XR75. We all took turns on each other's bikes on the street and the woods that were just a quick trail entrance away from my house (in the Honda guy's back yard, across the street from mine).

oh, and I had an early 90s fretless 4 string Yamaha bass

I spent a long time trying to blow up an XR75 in my teens. Stripped it down and painted OD green, put a tiny/loud muffler on it, ran the dog out of it up and down these roads, endless clutchless WOT shifts, took a lot longer than I thought.

Had several 80's Yammy basses, the neatest one in a purply Black Cherry burst, way cool.

One of my roommates decades ago swore by his Yamaha bass, like a serious bassist could get no better.

Well I truly hope it goes well for new Guild guitars that will be manufactured going forward. So that Guild doesn't end up being just a name slapped on any old guitar.

Actually speaking of old guitars, I as a staunch guitar recycler probably won't notice the outcome firsthand so to speak. I haven't bought a brand new guitar since the early 90's. I currently don't own any guitar that I bought brand new. 99% of guitars I still own are Guilds!!! What else would one play?😁

Hmmm, let's see now.
Martins, Gibsons, Taylors, Huss and Daltons, Collings, Waterloos, Eastmans, Takamines, just to name the first few that immediately come to mind.

I'm inclined to view this as a positive, but only if Yamaha doesn't do to Guild what Fender did to Hamer and Tacoma (and to a large but lesser extent Ovation), and almost did to Guild.

The phrase "we blow great motorcycle" may have been written by the author of most instruction manuals that accompanied Japanese-built audio equipment that I purchased back in the '70s & '80s.

Also, I have a long-time friend who was looking to purchase a grand piano a few years ago.

After playing many different instruments, he and his wife agreed that they both preferred the sound of the Yamaha. So that's what they purchased.

The same people writing the manuals for Japanese photographic equipment in the 50's and 60's.
Laughably incomprehensible.
