Perhaps this is proof positive I have too much time on my hands, I have a couple of questions : When you look at the words here, what color do you see? Not a trick question, go for the obvious, black. How do you know it's black? Cause you were taught it's black, right....so, when I look and see black, and you see black, are we seeing the same color, or are we seeing different colors and calling them black because we were taught that?

Here's the guitar content: Why are you said to play right handed when you fret with your left hand and vice versa?

FWIW, Wednesday marked 38 years I've been looking at the world through a windshield. Hmmm, ought to be a song in there somewhere.

IMHO, as far as the right hand/left hand query, I see it as somewhat analogous to baseball where a right hander catches the ball in his left hand and throws it with his right. The action hand in both activities is the right. The left hand complements the right and is an integral part of the finished product.

38 years through a windshield....I'll bet there's an entire album or three waiting to come out. :D

Get busy,
Joe

I was fixin' to post but Joe beat me there..... I was gonna say, "Just the one song?"

I think you're good for a couple of albums..... 8)

As far as right and left goes, if you take away the left hand and only play with your right, your songs are gonna be a bit boring and I'll probably not buy that album of songs you're gonna write. And I'd definitely go with an open tuning.

Even then, you're gonna need both hands.

Actually, I think about this quite a bit. I'm partially color-blind. What I see is often not what others see.

"Looking at the World Through a Windshield".

Three verses and a chorus.

Then I guess, in this instance, we're not seeing the same color.

Now back to "why right handed?"
A guitar has to be classified as either right or left handed.
With the majority of players being right handed, it is only natural to call a guitar that is played by right handed players, a right handed guitar. Right?

Yes sir that makes sense. I guess what puzzles me is that you make the music with your left hand, yet because you're frailing on the strings with the other hand it's considered right handed. Technically speaking, if you have someone else strumming the strings, then is it considered no handed?

38 years, 18 wheels, 10 gears, and a pair of double-clutchin' boots. You oughta be able to do something with that song-wise!

We could all work on a list of things we can do better with one hand than with two....but be nice! 8)
Joe
Please, allow me to kick this one off:
1: Strum your guitar while playing a real song.. (that was too easy)
2: Shift gears on a manual transmission while the vehicle is in motion...
3: One-handed pushups
4: Giving turn signals by hand
5: Writing the grocery list
6: Comb your hair (ok, ok, that assumes you have hair)
7: Brush your teeth (yeah and that assumes you have teeth)
8: Use nail clippers (carrying on the personal grooming theme :D )
9: Hold a telephone
10: Pick your nose (Back to personal grooming)
NEXT!!??
:D
And oh yeah, Happy Easter!!

Al, how the HELL do you use nail clippers with one hand? You need one hand to use the clippers, and the other hand to clip on...... ???? If you can clip your nails on the same hand as you're holding the clippers.... I really want to meet you one day.....
