Alternate stringing?

I'm sure there's a alternate tuning reason for this, but it sets off my OCD.

I did some recording where the engineer handed me a strat with the octave strings of a twelve string set on it and asked me to double track what I just played.

Gives a nice harmonic in a separate track on the recording.

Ahh….. is that what Nashville tuning is?

This was a long long time ago in a galaxy far far away and I don’t think that term had made it into my vocabulary.

Yeah Nashville tuning is raising the 4 bottom wound strings on a 6 string by an octave (E, A, D, G), and keeping the top 2 strings the same as before. It's used a lot in country, country rock, Americana, folk etc. and sounds kind of like a 12 string especially when doubling a standard tuned guitar.
