It's been a month since I got the 1978 G37 from my buddy, Wilmywood. There's actually been a few people who have told me that once the new guitar feeling goes away that I will start playing the 1949 D28 more. Yeah... well... it's been a month and that has not happened yet. I love playing the Martin. It was the best acoustic guitar I'd ever owned and one of the best I'd ever played... until the G37 showed up. This Guild is absolutely amazing.

Got more than a few people scratching their heads over the claim that if I had to choose I would choose the Guild. I'm a hopeless Guild-O-Phile.
My sympathies. How many guitars do you have room for? Better start planning now. A couple of us did manage to stop at 3.

I've said this a hundred times, but there probably isn't a dread sound I like better than a Guild arch back.

Weird, eh? Ever since Greg (Wilmywood) got his 1973 G37 I have been fascinated and amazed by them. I just played with a friend and she plays a gorgeous Santa Cruz. The Guild sounds every bit as good as that one, just like it sounds every bit as good as my Martin D28. Guild rules.

TRUE!!! My D65S is gonna be the one they pry out of my cold, dead hands!!
I just moseyed over to a post of yours and looked at your D65S. Very nice guitar. Love the upgrades. These maple guitars, in my lowly opinion, have what I call shimmer. They have what the rosewood guitars have and their boldness and brightness just amplifies those tones so that each note is crisp and clean and articulate. They're definitely the loudest guitar in the room unless the room is full of jumbos 🤣

To me, what I like is that you get a depth and sustain similar to rosewood, without the complex overtones of rosewood.

There ya go... great way to describe the guitar. The guitar fixer guy I go to recommended an interesting choice for strings. Being an old Guild dealer until Fender bought them, he knew the guitar. Told me if I didn't like them he'd change them free. Took it home and wow... every note is deep, crisp, clear, voluminous. We used 80-20s on it and...wow. No mid clutter. Now I have to talk myself into using my 1949 D28. Not very complicated... Guild makes wonderful guitars and the maple archback is a very distinct and special breed.

Until I bought my Santa Cruz, my 70 D 35 got more playing time than my Texan or Martin D 35 Custom, but more than a 49 D 28? I'd love to see how it would play out. For now it's the SC 95% of the time.

I've played SJS's '49 D28, and I wouldn't trade my G37 or his for it. True story.

This is the same I like my 12-fret mahogany dreadnaughts so much.

That describes my Santa Cruz. A richness and clarity without filling in every sonic space. My 00 15 12 fret was great for that, but a casualty of buying the SC.The SC has scalloped adi braces with hide glue for the braces only. I don't know what is hype but whatever, it has a richness without the smear of rosewood. I'm indebted to whoever ordered the guitar with mahogany instead of the more common rosewood. The herringbone and bear claw completes the package. But I did not know what I was buying except for playing the guitar. After, I researched the guitar via Santa Cruz. Hard to believe the D P/W is their cheaper alternative LOL.

But I'm not sure it would best the Guild in a rhythm track.
