I'm sure many of you saw the email and web announcement that Guild is featuring a reintroduction of the Starfire III, Starfire II Bass, and the M-75 Aristocrat in black.

I noticed that the M-75 now has chrome hardware appointments instead of the gold tuners, bridge, tailpiece and knobs.

Has anyone heard through the grapevine if this M-75 iteration is made in Korea, China, or Indonesia?

The black M-75s had gold hardware, but change to nickel in 2015. I'm not sure if they were made after 2015. I assume they stopped making them in the first place because they didn't sell very well. Maybe they had a few batches of each the three models with finish or wood flaws and used the black finish to cover them up. #conspiracytheory

Or maybe they're just trying to create some hype just in time for Christmas season. :)

Ah. I didn't know there were any with non-gold parts. Thanks for the info!

Great now I have a chance to get back my Black Starfire 3 ;)
Which is in my avatar ...sold it for some pipe dream guitar that just didn't work out.

From the photos on Instagram, it looks like a satin finish, although on the website, the neck looks gloss (the body is just black.)

I’m probably remembering incorrectly but when these were first introduced, was there something about the gold tops and the black ones only released in limited numbers?

Anyone going to work on collecting the whole set? Looks like lots of fun to me!

And the web site states they are "black gloss" as well...

You're remembering correctly. Black and gold were special limited releases.

There's a 2013 black and gold M-75 on FB Marketplace.

I have not seen any such info or labels yet but from looking at the features of all 3 I'd say all 3 are still from SPG Korea.

Are they any good those black re issues, and who makes them, Oxnard's Guild-Cordoba people, Yamaha or 'SPG Korea' (whoever/wherever that is) ?
Anyone knows what happened to workers, luthiers, plants and locations where new guitars are (and will be) built (especially in the U.S.) ?

Anyway, those guitars being made abroad, I imagine there is no real reason why this would change, but it's better to know for sure....

Bernie, as far as I know, Yamaha has nothing (yet) to do with the manufacture of Guild guitars. And, also as far as I know, there has been no change in where US-built Guilds are being made (Oxnard, California, that is). Newark Street products are all Asian-made.

There may be one exception with the Kim Thayil S-100... There were a handful of those built in the US, and I'm not sure if they came from Oxnard or elsewhere.

As for Korea vs. Indonesia, there have been Newark Street products from both countries. Recently, the Starfire I was being built in Indonesia whereas the other Starfire models were built in Korea. (SPG is one of the factory names there).

That was clarified in the thread there.

Well, I said it just two posts above...

And since you asked who SPG is:
