I was surfing the Guild website and I saw that the factory is manufacturing a new limited edition Guild model (F-40 style)! It has a Cocobolo back and sides which looks a lot like Brazilian Rosewood with a Carpathian Spruce top. It looks different, but I appreciate the factory's innovative enthusiasm! The website gives the list of shops that have the guitar right now... none of which I am remotely close to... but if you know any of the shops, stop by, strum the guitar a bit and post a review!

Now that is a thing of beauty! Just for guitar geekiness, Jose Oribe (awesome classical builder and author of "The Fine Guitar") builds his classicals out of a limited supply of Brazilian Rosewood or Cocobolo, which is as Guild points out, is a true rosewood. If this is any indication of things to come from Guild we are in for some fine instruments.

Well, well.. The first limited/new model from Connecticut. Good news. Pretty guitar, too.

Very nice guitar!! I think that's a good move for Guild. If you ever glance through Taylor's website or a copy of 'Wood and Steel' magazine, you'll notice that Taylor puts out a good number of limited editions. I think theirs usually arrive in the Fall each year. It's a good opportunity to show off their crafts people's skills and generate interest from the general guitar buying public. Even if Joe Six Pack will never buy a limited edition Taylor or Guild, he'll stop and look.

Very pretty guitar. Guild's website says: "Carpathian spruce (Picea abies) is a superior tonewood that comes from the Carpathian mountains of Russia." The Carpathians aren't in Russia ... they used to be but they moved. They're at the western edge of the Ukraine - no longer part of Russia - and extend northwest into eastern Slovakia/southern Poland and south into Romania (former home of Vlad 'The Impaler' Dracula ... Draculastan). Either arrogance in not bothering to fact-check the ad copy or they did a 'focus group' study to get a feel for the response to 'Romania' and the results were: "Well ... let's just say Russia".

Well, FMIC's promotions department seldom writes accurate copy. Maybe they were using an old map, CJ.

Must say that I like this guitar, especially the pretty cocobolo back and sides, and I like the direction implied by building a limited edition like this.

But my initial aesthetic take is that the tuning buttons suck, man. Ugly and gaudy at the same time, like a Rolaids tablet. Maybe I could get used to them. Anyone else notice the buttons?

Damn glad the St. Bernard tracked you down, CJ.
Good to be back; was looking for old-growth Romanian Spruce trees ... only on the north side of mountains .... that had been blessed by Orthodox priests ... on nights with full moons ... wearing garlic around my neck ...

The tuner buttons are a little much.

Can't say I like the abalone G shield on the fretboard over the MOP inlay. They should have dressed the thing up...at least abalone fretboard dots.

Cocobolo is a nice tone wood...

I like the buttons, they would go well with my plaid trousers and my toupe. Obviously, some of you guys have no taste.

Okay, I like the included-in-the-Limited-Edition-purchase Guild Leather Strap, too. Where can a guy get one like that?

I wonder what the price is going to be. I didn't see the buttons on the first look through but you wont be replacing them 'cause I bet they are molded on. Overall I like it. I'd like to see a limited JF-55cb (for cocobolo).

Gilded,

I'm not exactly what strap it is, but dklsplace or bingk can hook you up with a wonderful tooled strap. There's a thread about that someshere (check the members only section).

By the way, guys, I've been looking for an excuse to go to South Shore music, which is a hike from my house, but not terrible... If someone wants me to go scout one out, I remain your faithful servant... :)

The pic looks just like mine, which is the one available through LTG.

Looks like one of the dealers (in Heath, OH) is only about 5 miles from where I met up with Graham and cjdplayer to see Phil Keaggy a couple of months ago. Too bad they didn't have it then :( .

Love the guitar and the strap. Can't say I'm fond of the buttons. Seems like they'd get pretty nasty after a few months of use.

    Rolaids tablets ha Effin? It is a pretty guitar, but if it's critique time....and like I said, I like it, just not too crazy about the "G" without the shield on the headstock.....or the Rolaids tablets.
