So it's basically the same as a D25 but flat-backed?

There's an '83 D35 for sale near me. Might go look at it today.

Thanks.

Re: D35 question

Hi G. It might be similar, I had one a few years ago, only for about a year or so....I also have an F50R...to tell you the truth, in its own way this particular one sounded about as good, in its own way....Sorry I ever sold it...the sound and playability were stellar, just a bit of a plain Jane in the looks dept, but..........so what.... :!: :D I'd go have a look if I were you..... and soon. Steffan.

I'm not sure it will be different enough from what I have for me to want it, but it is 26 years old. Worth a look. I'm thinking about something rosewood in the future, but who knows. Maybe this one will grab me.

Spruce and Mahogany, flat back. Very plain appointments.

My 1975 is terrifc. Just what you want in a spruce/mahogany dread. Very warm, bright tone. Lots of voume and presence.

If the $$ are right, go for it :!: :!:

Yup yup. If I like it more than the DCE1 I'll grab it, but they're kinda similar - mine is spruce and 'hog with an arched back. Same plain logo, binding, and dots, but with a cutaway and electronics (that I never use).

If it's all the seller says it is in terms of condition, looks like a very nice deal.....
Hope you can get it, good luck!

Re: D35 question

I've owned three and I recommend them highly. The D35 is a simple, no-frills Guild that feels, plays, and sounds great. I'll probably get another one someday just because I like them so much.

All of my 35s (past and present) have unique stories attached to them, so they're a little special on that end, too!
If guitars could talk and tell us where they've been!!

Go get it if you want it,
Joe .

Looks like we're gonna meet up tomorrow. Dude says I will be surprised at the condition. Maybe a little scratch or two here or there - yeah, heard that one before! ;) Says someone recommended having something done to it to make it a bit easier for him to play, and it sounds like the saddle was lowered. But why...hm...hopefully the neck set is ok. So we'll see.

Q,

Make sure it feels good to YOU! Accept no substitute for that deep-down feeling, because that's the one true sign that it's yours. I'll send some D35 'good vibrations' your way tomorrow!

May well still have a plastic saddle and nut - if so, recommend bone replacement.

I concur.

Absolutely. That's why I didn't end up with the G37 - felt and played great, but the maple wasn't my sound. I do like the 'hog dreads though...

Re: D35 question

There's at least one floating around this area that's just wonderful. When I managed a guitar store, I did some routine maintenance on this one for a guy who'd I gone to high-school with. Years later after I'd been out of retail music for a dozen years or more, I ran into John and asked if he still had his Guild. He was surprised that I remembered it, but I told him it was one that stood out. Even though I only played it for a few minutes (after restringing, cleaning, adjusting the truss rod, and lowering the saddle a tad), it just stuck with me as a wonderful guitar.

I like very plain and stripped down guitar, they have a certain elegance to them. A D-35 has a solid 'hog back and sides instead of the laminates in a D-25.

GOT IT!!!

Okay, while the pictures are uploading...

I was quite surprised at the condition. There are a couple nicks/indentations here and there. You'll see in the pics, although some are a bit exaggerated by the flash. No bridge lift, no belly bout, no worn out frets, no cracks, etc. etc. A couple slight marks on the back that wouldn't photograph so I gave up. The mahogany is so dark you wouldn't notice anyway. A couple slight impressions from a stand at the neck curve, but still not easy to see with the dark color.

In short, it's a beauty! Sounds much like my DCE1 but a bit warmer and a little better balanced. But I haven't really given it a proper test drive yet. Love the 'hog sound. Beautiful color. Well maintained.

The case isn't original but I can't imagine a better one. Sturdy and arch-top. If I screened a Guild logo on it you'd probably think it was original. Came with chamois and lemon oil, tuner, strap, key.

Didn't really even try to bargain down (even after making a jab about the upside down truss rod cover ;) ) so I forked over the five bills.

More to come...

Congrats Q!
That's one beautiful piece of art. Yours is just under 500 SNs after mine, so we're almost related.

Many happy days/nights are sure to come your way.

You did it, so move to the head of the class! :D
