Depending on where you live, full eclipse will last a good long time, maybe around 2 hours, and if you depend on solar energy, well, good luck.
No solar at his house, or here although I've been trying to get husband on board with it for over 25 years. I would think a bit of eclipse would not cause any more interruption than night time.

...another LP I bought right off the turntable at the local record music store, Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon. We just had no exposure to stuff like this, certainly not on radio, walked into store to drool at guitars and had my eyelids blown back! Demo record, probably why it has so many pops and clicks, but I don't care 'cause its a first release ;)

Don't anyone burn out their retinas looking at the sun unsafely!

Have you heard of this thing called night?

We're on solar, 2 large fridges and a freezer, plus lights, internet, etc running off an inverter 24/7/365, somehow* everything stays on all night, night after night.

* Storage batteries, akin to a bucket of water.

Just saw a few images on line. Someone posted one w/ a few flares (calculated to be 8x the size of the earth!)

Actually, Rich, I believe "full eclipse" ( if you are referring to the period of totality) was 2-3 minutes +/-.
Even if talking entire period, not a problem.

Not to mention...solar panels are most efficient based on the inclination (position) of the sun. Even 80% eclipse blockage at peak inclination likely gives you more direct sun energy than a full sun on the horizon. If anything just by what gets refracted in the early/late hours of sunlight.

My friend was monitoring his rooftop solar panel generation during the eclipse... It really did drop off during the event. I didn't get to ask him what it was at it's lowest point, but even with about 25% blockage he was down quite a bit. That was a little after 3pm and the sun was about (roughly) 45% angle inclination... Maybe 40%

We had a small gathering on our condo balcony (all wearing parkas). Too cloudy to see the sun, but we were all impressed by the darkness at full eclipse.
We talked and laughed about the crazy rumours going around concerning power outages etc. I then sheepishly produced an unopened box of D cell batteries from December 1999!

My wife told me the government warned people to make sure they got gas and had plenty of food, and that kids should stay home from school on 4/8. LOL.

Well, I did fill up both vehicles with gas Sunday and we went food shopping, so they fooled me again! Can't believe I fell for it.

GAD Edit - slightly altered to make less political.

That has nothing to do with the astronomical event itself and everything to do with massive crowds flooding into small towns that don't have the resources to support them.

I should have stood down, well, we did need some milk and other things, but no one, I mean nobody was driving to Phoenix to see an eclipse that you could only see with glasses. Like I posted yesterday, you could barely tell. We were not close to path.
