El Kabong from the '70's is a totally different thing!

Ha! My mom used to call mine a "pot tower", and it was so funny I never told her the "proper" name.

I wish Capquest had taken a picture of my former 1967 F-50 Rosewood before he'd gotten it retopped. On the other hand, I'm sure it'd be really cringeworthy to everyone here on LTG and I might have to ban myself.

I almost "El Kabong"ed my trumpet once when I was in high school after I seriously botched a solo. I'm really glad I didn't though. I recently sold that trumpet to a student player and it lives on with her.

Moral of the story... Take a chill pill.

I remember this well. That's why the Martin Museum will no longer loan any of their guitars to film makers!

Oy. Poor, old Martin.

I didn't remember the part about Jennifer Jason Leigh not knowing what was going on. Ugh.

Oh, I was reminded that there were two period-correct Guilds (1960s-1970s) that were played in "Daisy Jones and the Six" but there was no El-Kabonging going on. I would never fault a Guild lover for not loaning their guitar to a movie production!

I've never seen a Guild destroyed, but my former 1967 F-50 Rosewood was El Kabonged by an old girlfriend of the original owner. It was repaired with a new top, but that was a real life situation, not a stupid movie director.

Watching the clip, her reaction is memorable. A mix of shock, horror and anger.
Reading the accounts of how the guitar came to be destroyed, I do wonder if Tarantino did it deliberately, to get her onscreen reaction  The financial penalty would be negligible compared to the movie's budget and I have no idea whether the loss of an extremely rare guitar would bother him. I really do hope it was a genuine accident, but will never be sure.
