On today's play list! No surprise that, after a little more than a week, I'm still infatuated with this guitar. I love everything about it, so much so that I will be re-thinking my acoustic line up (takes a quick glance at the D-4 cowering in the corner). I wish it had a wider nut and, for true F-48 vibe, a bound and block fingerboard, but it sounds and plays great as is. If the D-40 Traditional takes this basic recipe, but with the added bass focus and punch of a dreadnaught, I can see that guitar being a real winner, too. Sandy sure likes his.

Congrats!! I've owned a few and have not been disappointed with any of them. They put out a lot of sound and play easily. It's a 1 11/16" nut width correct??? It seems you must prefer the 1 3/4"???

Yes. 1 11/16" is fine, but I play a little better on acoustics with a 1 3/4" nut.

That's the beauty of being a not so great guitar player. Nut widths from 1 5/8" to 1 3/4" all seem to work ok for me. If I had to pick one I'd guess it would be the 1 11/16". You're a bad guy. Now you have me thinking of yet again searching for another Oxnard F-40.

My F30 neck width, using nut width originally 1 11/16", somehow had just enough room to accommodate a Martin inch and 3/4 nut, coming just under the spread that would cause the E strings to walk off the edge. You might be able to squeeze one on to your F-40. Take a look. It's just a measly 16th.

So you’ve got a dedicated psychedelic light show room at home?….. Nice!

Yes indeed. In 1949, Epiphone changed the specs on the FT-79 (which in 1958 under Gibson ownership became the well-known Texan model), with the new specs featuring laminated maple back & sides, and an arched back. So yes, the arched back on a flattop predates the existence of Guild.

The bottom line here is that the arched & laminated maple back is simply one of many design options. Another design used frequently in the ‘40s was the pressed solid arched top or back (as opposed to carved or laminated), and the use of mahogany as well as maple. Guild has also had a number of models with arched & laminated mahogany backs, including the jumbo JF-4 (‘92-‘95).

Glad to see this. I was unimpressed by the F40 Traditional's sound when it first arrived (it always felt great), but I've warmed to it considerably over the past week or so. It's not just that my ears have adjusted to it; I swear it's louder and more resonant now than it was a month ago. And to my hands it[s still a joy to play (though my shoulder is a bit less enthusiastic).

Coop, did customs get you for extra dough? I am tempted by Tundra’s other ones for sale, at 2099 seems legit

No, no customs duties. I'm not sure one can count on that, but I paid nothing extra beyond what I paid Tundra.

Well no sooner do I think about this, Reverb just tells me a seller is making me an offer! Apparently Tundra was offering me 10% off for the next 24 hours. So I countered and said will you let it go for 20% off? Except now that I think about it, I countered both offers for their nat top and the SB, so yikes, if they agree, I guess I bought both. 😬😵‍💫🤕
