The luthier who sometimes helps me with my guitars picked up my F40 Traditional today and immediately commented on how light it was. After he put new strings on it (no other setup needed), I had my first chance to listen to someone else play the guitar. It sounded terrific, with good volume and balance and a clean sound.

(ETA: he also really liked my Tacoma F40, which is of course a very different guitar).

I am enjoying my F40T. I think the jumbo shape is actually more comfortable than a dreadnought, and I really like the neck profile.
The top on mine has a lot of character ;)
By the way I asked Guild support if this model can safely use medium strings, and they said no problem.

Update: Ok so good news is I don’t have to buy 2, but I don’t even know if I’m getting one.

Tundra declined my 20% off offer on the sunburst version, but they did accept my 20% off counter offer on the natural top version. I was like damn! Pretty sweet, OK, that’s what I’m talking about! So then of course Reverb asks for payment once an offer is accepted so I make the transaction, they take my money and the item shows as sold. Since that date and up until now, no guitar, no update, no tracking, no word from Tundra. The item in my order history shows not shipped yet. Figured it’d get sent right away, but I waited a week and when status didn’t change I sent a note to Tundra asking if it was in fact sent seeing as they already took my money. Crickets. I wait three days, send a follow up email asking for order status, bupkis!

So I have sent two follow up emails 3 days apart, the latest one just yesterday, and now thinking come Monday afternoon if they don’t respond, I will have to call them direct and speak to someone about it. I mean I prefer if the guitar shows up obviously, or at the very least they answer my messages and provide the shipping update. To not even answer my follow up message on an order is bad business. With the recent success you other guys had I felt I might have it by now. Heck, Merlin up there in Canada got the leather strap I shipped from here in CA already, come on Tundra! But how long do I wait for it to show up before asking Reverb to intervene? I dunno, I hate having to wonder what’s up, but something seems fishy. If calling doesn’t get me anywhere, I will have to pull in Reverb.

Ugh, sorry to hear that. I hope the phone call produces a positive outcome. If not, I'm sure Reverb will intervene if you start the process. Good luck!!

At the very least, call Tundra. I had a delay with my F-40 Traditional and called them after about a week when I had received no shipping information. I had the guitar within a few days.

Best of luck.

Seem to recall Merlin himself had a bit of confusion with 'em about some 12-ers on close-out a few years back, but think ultimately it was resolved.

I will, yea, cause I thought it odd I heard nothing, when both you and twocorgis had received the guitar and all was well.

Well just placed the call, got their voice mail and left a cordial detailed message inquiring about the status of my order. Now that I think about it, I believe they are 3 hours ahead and so maybe its lunch time. Anyway I will run some errands and get my day started and hope to hear back this week.

FWIW, and to answer a question that has come up previously regarding purchases from Tundra, I found this morning a bill for $174 in import duties for my F-40 Traditional. II'm visually impaired, so I sometimes miss things sent in the mail--the bill, from FedEx was sent about six weeks ago).

About a 10% fee, I wonder if that is how much Tundra pays to import them from the US initially. Plus hard to fathom how a made in US made guitar can go to Canada for sale, be offered at a lower price than US retailers have it for, and if a US person buys it, they have to pay import fees back to the US. Even with all that and fees, the US person still gets it for less money than the US retailers will sell it for. Probably why there was a snag, who knows. Reverb asked if I want a refund, I said I’d prefer the item at the agreed upon price :). We shall see.

Oh man, that really sucks, Jeff! In any case, I'm not sure if you said it or not, but are you enjoying your new F-40?

And, Boneman, keep me/us posted. I'm not sure if Reverb can help you get your item, although it's good that you can get the refund if you want.

The import duties for that guitar imply that the seller did not provide a "commercial invoice" that indicated the country of origin, model/serial numbers, etc.

Unless something has changed in the past couple of years, in my experience there should be no import tariffs for a guitar that was made in the US (or Canada, or Mexico), and shipped between any two of those countries.

More patience than me . If they talk to you about money like there’s no problem yet after sales won’t communicate , I’m not only calling them direct I’m dragging Reverb along for ride and letting them know it !

Im getting cranky in my old age ! Lmao 🤣

I'm enjoying it quite a bit. Indeed, I stayed up far too late last night playing it.

hah, well I can afford to be patient in this instance because I have been in the getting to know you phase with my new Les Paul standard, new strat Ultra Luxe and new SG Jr. :) Then I also felt at that price, heck you can't touch that anywhere in the US, so if it happens I scored a fantastic deal. As it turns out, I did speak with Tundra, they could not locate the item in their inventory, and so I opted for a refund. While they do still have the sunburst one, and offered a discount, he did say it has some finish checking, so I think that particular one has been neglected in their warehouse and I'm not down with a marred finish after all that. So I will continue to be patient, and the right F-40 Traditional will come along and if it is reasonably priced I will grab it :)

Now I do see this one, and it looks pretty sweet, but only one of? Was this like that recent GSR run where they made one of each?

Yeah, the modern "GSR"s from Oxnard are confusing, Boneman. I would ignore it and compare it to the regular F-40 Traditional models. Whatever's "special" about this guitar seems insignificant (as many of the recent ones do).

Good luck! Sorry the Tundra thing didn't work out for you.
