Been meaning to sign on here for a long time... but never got around to it. I have a '74 F30r. Looks more like a mini jumbo for sure.
Wow, stunning! And yours looks like a 4.5 or 5 in depth vs mine. Nice!

Thanks for the welcome!

East Indian Rosewood back and sides. Just measured it... 4 7/8 at the tail end. Scale is 25.5 inches. Lowerbout 15.1/4.

It's a tank of a guitar. I thought it might be layered, but I have nothing to base that on. I bought it new from Jerry's Music (guitar?) in Peoria, Illinois where I did most of my growing up. It's got a couple dings, but considering it's almost 50 yrs old I'm ok with it.

Had the bridge re-glued about '96.. it was a hot, humid summer with no aircon in our house where my wife and kids moved to in '93.

I'vea lso had a '51 Martin D-18 ($350), D-28 (also $350) and an 0018, can't remember the year. While the bridge was getting fixed I bought a Taylor 615, an amazing maple b/s, with spruce top. My BIL has the D-18 and a former pastor has the Taylor.

So, last week, my best friend from the late '60s and I were on the phone. He's got all these custom Martins he's bought over the years. About two hours after we had hung up the phone he calls me back. He proceeds to tell me he bought me a guitar and it should be there in a couple of days. It's a made in Mexico Dreadnaught Jr. All solid woods, spruce top, sapele back and sides. Cute little thing with 24 inch scale. Sounds really good for a small guitar

Welcome Bruce, that is a spectacular F30R!

Woody's F30R had by far the shallowest body depth of the five F30's I owned.
All were compelling guitars.

Top photo, my '80 "mini-jumbo" F30 and Woody's '98 F30R,

Hey, Bruce,

If by "layered" you meant laminated, then I think that's very unlikely. All the rosewood backed, USA-built guitars were made from solid woods. There were exceptions in the 1960s, and today in the Asian-built acoustics, but not from the era of your guitar.

I like the "mini-jumbo" designation for the shape of yours, but I wouldn't include body depth as part of that distinction only because that has varied widely on Guild's jumbos as well over the years. I've certainly proven to my own ears that jumbo body depth doesn't necessarily detract from the sound of the beast at all. I guess I'm saying that if you ever have a chance to play a more recent version of the F-30R, you should jump at it. :) That, from a major Guild enabler, of course. :)

Again, welcome aboard, and by the way I love the sunburst on yours!

Thanks for the pics Bonneville, that really helps differentiate how different an inch is re depth. Yours looks like it has the depth of a dread. That is sweet. And yours will be regular scale right? Mine is short, which I have really taken a liking to.

Woody, not sure about scale - I sold the burst mini-jumbo F30 some time ago.

I've held on to one F30R, it's the NH burst on the left.
