Fake D-25?

This gentleman has put up a 1973 D-25. I’ve personally been in the market for one, doing way too much research as usual

This can’t be legit? The finish, the headstock decal, I’ve never seen one remotely like this. Even if it was legit, that price could not be justified with all the modifications.

Am I crazy to think this is fake?

It's not a U.S. model, it's an import but I'm lost on the various new overseas models.

Price is nutz but I have a MIC Guild which is a wonderful guitar. Look at the used on the Guitar Center site....you may see one of these there....at 1/3rd the price....but it ain't what "we" call a D-25.

Oh and D-25's wouldn't have a Chesterfield....this has the IMO poorly executed Chesterfield that marred the look of the otherwise attractive early GAD's.

D25s never had a Chesterfield. It looks like somebody slapped a truss rod cover on an import Guild, which model, I'm not sure.

Yeah, it's a Chinese-made Guild. Calling it a D-25 is false and misleading.

Yep, the price is about 3 times what that guitar is worth. I got this 2011 GAD D125-12 with Guild case for $450.... (It's actually a remarkably good 12-string!)

But to say this is a 73’? Were they making imports in 73?
No. Also, Kijiji site doesn't show item anymore, and caters to unknowledgeable buyers. Not a place to buy a guitar.
Seller may be equally ignorant and not realize label in body is likely transplanted from a true '73 D25Cn't tell if it's actually n archback, can't tell if there's a centerstrip on the back or see any cross-bracing.

But yes looks like one of the short-lived import versions of the D25. It probably has trussrod access thru soundhole, none of the imports adjust at the headstock.

??? I'm not sure I can agree... You might want to have a second look to the pictures:

So where do you all see an "import version" of a Guild? I don't see any here...

The only things I see are that somebody put a new Guild and Chesterfield decal/sticker on the headstock of a normal Guild D-25 which seems to be a 1973 model. And the gloss finish was sanded off at some point in time, the pickguard is gone and the original gold Guild decal is gone. But otherwise it is a legit Guild D-25. The tuners also were replaced with later Guild tuners, the resolution of the picture from the back of the headstock is not good enough, but I think I see the imprints and old screw holes of the original 3 in line strip tuners.

So it is a refinished 1973 mahogany archback Guild D-25 to me. And yes, it is not a left handed model, just the strings were mounted like on a left handed guitar.

Y'know what got me suspicious is it looks like the label has damage on one edge similar to what one would expect if somebody tried to scrape under it. And the chesterfield was obviously incorrect even slightly mis-aligned, so I stopped cogitating.

I like your take. :)

Looks like we've all been Ralf'd!
Totally! I'm really no good at ID-ing these models. It helps to see the label! My only thought was that the rosette looked like the MIC rosettes. I'll go back to imagining that I might know something about US-made jumbo 12-strings now. 😖

Part of the venerated member requirements is being Ralf’d. Several times.

I think I need 3 more Hansings and I move to Reverential status. So I got that going for, which is nice.
