Hello all. I'm lazy so it's taken me oh....a year to get some pictures of my x170 to share with my Guild friends. Only one ding on her right by the cable input, looks like she was stabbed by the tip of a 1/4" connector :(

Tuner buttons are Imperial types, not oem I'm sure but patina on them matches everything else, so I assume they've been on there a long time.

Question for Hans or anyone else that knows: Did Guild serial numbers go in order? Is this the 65th x170 made? I also wonder if this was made in '86 as indicated by the Guild site which I know is suspect.

Another question: Does anyone else have a "Friday" case? The Patina on this case seems right for the age, I just think someone had a bad week and got stuck on stencil duty

Oh and I LOVE this guitar. I read several reviews/opinions and got to demo a x150 at Norm's Rare Guitars in Ca..... which was good because I have stubby fingers and I needed to know if I could play a guitar I was going to have to buy online, as finding one here in AZ would be pretty tough.

Hello Beat-Dominator,

Yes, the numbers were stamped in sequence in the 'finishing dept.'. The numbers that had been used that day were written up in the ledger, so the person who kept track of the serial number system would know what the next available number would be, when a new batch of that particular model would come in. So your guitar is indeed the 65th X-170 that was serial number stamped, not counting the prototypes, but it was not necessarely in that order that they would be completed. Even though your guitar was serial numbered in 1986, it was probably not completed until the beginning of 1987. However, for all practical purposes this is a 1986 guitar.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

X170's encompass everything I love about an electric archtop guitar. I can stare at mine for hours!

Wow, what a beautiful guitar!! And a burst too. I have the Imperial knobs on my D65s and I really like those. Thanks for sharing some pictures. How do you fight the dryness in AZ?

Thanks everyone.

Hans, thank you for bestowing some of that knowledge on me!

davismanLV, Most things I have read say that the typical household humidity is ~20% around here even when we get down to 5% relative humidity outside.. and if the guitar is aclimated to that it should be ok. Acoustics need some kind of humidifier or the tops will fall. These x150-170's have been known for quite a bit of finish checking too but mine is 100% free of them, so I believe it to be in a stable condition.
