For $5K US which one(s) wouldn't you sell, if any?

I had an interesting conversation this morning and thought I'd post a thread on the subject... One of our users was offered about $5K (in modern $) back in the 1980s for a G-37 that he didn't sell. Now, that's loyalty! Looking at your collection today, which Guild(s) wouldn't you part with if someone would give you $5K today.

I've had around 30 acoustics over the years. There are only really two that have been with me all along, and those are guitars that have sentimental value so I'm not including them in this because no one would offer $5K for them. However, honestly, for me, there is only one Guild that I wouldn't take $5K for -- my 2006 F-512. Arguably this is sentimental too because it was the first Guild I ever bought, back in 2007. But, it's also my favorite guitar and I'd never let it go, even at a ridculous $5K. All the rest, I'd be willing to part with.

I consider myself a pretty avid Guild lover, but I've never treated my guitars as investments or part of a (big) collection.

I still wouldn't sell the '72 G37 for $5K. Of course it's a moot point because with a repaired clean break off of the headstock I couldn't get much for it now. But, it still plays and sounds as good, or better, than ever.

A quick side note - as I have aged, my voice has lost a couple of steps of range. I now string that G37 with AD 13-56s, true mediums, two steps low so that I can still play my favorite songs in the chord constructs that I always have. Surprisingly, that set of strings at that tuning comes out about 7 lbs of total tension lower than my ever faithful AD 10-47s I have always used. The G37 still rings and rings even at that tuning. She's a keeper.

By the way, I know a few members have large, and very high-end, expensive collections. I'm curious about your feelings on this subject too. I.e., do you have any guitars in your collections that you wouldn't part with for $5K, and if you don't mind... why?

I agree with Dave. It took me years here in Germany to get the Guilds I own. Maybe one fine day I will part with one, but only because I do not like it anymore and not because I want to cash in. I have never seen my guitars as investments but merely as instruments made to be played and to cherish. They give me more than money ever could.

That's one reason I bought my baritone (BT-258E), I was having trouble hitting some of the high notes in a few tunes that needed the arrangement I've been playing, sometimes for 50 years or more!

Yes! Some tunes just don't sound right otherwise.

Interesting question. I think my New Hartford F-47R NT which is a joy to play, and maybe my D-15m that I put a lot of effort into repairing, and also is a great player.

I could tell the story about the extremely wealthy musician who played my DV72 and loved it, but I won't. This guy had cut old albums, and was worth hundreds of millions of $ at the time.. Long story short, about 12 years ago I was afraid he was going to make me an offer, and I'd have had to take it. I drove home breathing a sigh of relief as he did not make me an offer. $5000? I've got one that cost me substantially more than that. 😊I'd probably sell my DV72 for $5000 and go buy another Collings.
