Nice restoration jfilm. So much better to show off that wonderful mahogany grain than to have it hidden.

Nice picture, Rob!
I would not sell is my '64 D-40
I totally understand, jfilm.

It looks like that back crack might need to be cleated, buddy. Although if it already is, then don't sweat it. The reappearing crack is because of lacquer settling in and getting hard. I have a few of those on my 2018 Jacobs restoration classical.

Of the Guilds that I have owned, the only one is the GAD30R. The others are/weren't for sale, at any price. The only reason I would sell the GAD30R is in order to get a F30R, or even one mahogany or maple. The rest of them don't go anywhere.

Thanks- it was a real mess (see photo 1), otherwise would never have done that to a Hoboken Guild. So it was a good opportunity to see what the wood looks like without messing with the vintage finish, since someone had already destroyed it. Was really impressed with how nice the mahogany is.

I've got a few cleats in there already, though it could probably use a couple more down toward the end. The crack was substantial and I had to put splints in the gaps using mahogany veneer. It's holding pretty well, but opened slightly in the winter. It's been about two years since I did all this- not a pro job but that's ok, since this is one I'll never sell!

I wouldn’t part with my F-50 for $5k. Yes I could buy another and pocket some change but my dad owned that guitar since around the time I was born.

Totally get it; and sentiment is a huge part of the equation here.
I not sure I could live with myself if I ever sold it. Think about it, my dad gives me a guitar because it was my favorite acoustic ever and the I ended up selling it, sure makes me look like an ingrate lol

Well, of course it all depends on your circumstances, but yeah. Who wants to look like an ingrate!?!? :D

I get it, heck, 33 years after receiving it, I had sold the acoustic guitar my brother gifted me for Xmas, which was my first and only acoustic throughout, and I felt really bad about it, even though he wouldn’t really care that I’d sold it. Even in that situation I felt sorta like an ingrate for selling it instead of keeping it for sentimental reasons.

For $5k I would not sell either my 2013 Gibson L4CES nor my 2015 Gibson Les Paul Custom.

I forgot, there IS one guitar I would never sell. It is the 1974 Alvarez 5021 12-string that my MIL gifted to me a couple years ago. It was her one and only for almost 50 years. I had to do a bunch of work to get it back in playing condition. However it sings again and will remain with me until I pass it down to one of my kids. Not worth a lot monetarily, but that’s not what counts.

Because I got tired of the risk, I don't have any guitars left that are worth $5k. However, I recently finished a build that I would not sell right now for $5k.

Maybe it's a honeymoon thing, but, like my first marriage, I can see that honeymoon lasting another 52 years.

For me there are two answers:

I would not take $5k for a guitar that’s worth close to or more than $5k already.

In the spirit of the question, there’s probably only a couple that I wouldn’t part with. One’s an import Jackson that’s worth maybe $800 and one’s my 2000 Starfire.
I have an old Jackson Performer P7....incredible guitar.

But with the exception of my Madeira and old Ibby 12 string I really have no emotional attachments, they've been with me 40+ years. But $5k????? SOLD! I'll make a package deal...take 'em both for $5,500!

I'm just starting this thread, so I've not read it yet. But just so you know, if anyone wants to offer me $5K for any of my guitars, I'm all ears. Let the offers commence!! (y)
Well, that's a bit of a surprise. Is that true, Tom? No sentiment with any of them? Even the blue Breedlove? Just ever-curious.
