In a bit of foolishness I put in a pretty low bid on one of the GSR-F40s on ebay and, somewhat to my surprise, the seller took my offer. No regrets. I bought a very nice instrument and now I can't wait to get it.
I have been playing a Gibson J-185TV for a while and love the body shape- they sit lower on your knee than a dreadnought and are more comfortable to play because of it. I wanted different woods and a little more punch. I think the GSR F-40 is going to do it for me.
J-185TV for sale....

Yep that's the one. I offered just over 1/2 of retail. They have had the guitar listed for a while and I figured they might move it as long as they didn't lose money. I guess I was right.
It won't be here for a week or so, I'll post pix when I get it.

My guess is that they probably lost a bit of money on that one. Mandolin Brothers and Street Sounds NYC each have one that hasn't sold yet, and I think the production run was less than 20.

Here's how I figure it- Retail on the GSR F-40 was set at $4499, MAP $3399 (?) which is what you see Mandolin Bros and Streetsounds, and a few others offering them at. I hear tell that retailers get 50% off of list so they paid about $2250 for the guitar, I offered them a $100 profit. I may be wrong about this, but I think I got a good deal- playing time will tell.

No doubt you got a great deal, and that's a beautiful guitar, too. I'm not too sure about retailers getting new guitars for 50% of MSRP, though I could be wrong. There's also a lot of other costs to figure in too, and that guitar had probably been taking up space at the store for a long time at this point. Kinda like how I bought my Gibson SWD for a fire sale price at GC.

Best of luck with it!

Very pretty guitar. Sounds like a deal......and I like that the pickguard is an accessory. If it were up to me, I wouldn't have one, but all of mine had them when I got them......but I don't use a pick, and I love the look of all of that top spruce.

+1.

I'd definitely go with a clear pick guard if you need a guard.

Beautiful guitar.
Congrats. :D :D :D

Give it some time. Cocobolo can be pretty bright when new.

I like the pickguard. I am primarily a flatpicker. I don't usually do any pick damage to the guitar but my fingers hit often, and besides I like the look with the guard in place. It looks more traditional that way.

Here's the first picture of it with the pick guard in place. It looks much better to me.
Build date from the serial number is November 30, 2009 in New Hartford- 4th guitar built that day. It's still a baby.
I am still getting used to it. After a period of lots of guitar playing I have been off playing fiddle and mandolin a lot recently so suddenly the neck seems a little narow. Once I get back into it and discipline my fingers a bit more I will be reminded why I like the 1 and 11/16 necks and 2 and 1/8 bridge spacing- it's close, but makes for fast picking. Overall its a winner- beautiful, nearly flawless build, bass that says Guild to me, and the trebles are coming out too.
