Well Ihave had the GSR-F40 for a few weeks now and it is coming more alive as I play it. I figure it sat in the case pretty much from November of last year until July so 8 months of no vibrations left it a little dull. It is better now. My first impression were that it was good, it sounded like a Guild, but it wasn't outstanding, just a very nice guitar and beautiful too. Now it is excellent, and it may become great- time will tell.

I fooled myself a bit in the hot weather as I was always playing with a fan on in the room. You can't believe how much that affects what you hear from your guitar. The fan cancels some sounds, chops up some sounds, and generally will make you think a very nice guitar might have something wrong with it.
It cooled off these last few days and I played it without the fan- much much better guitar. Between a few hours of playing and the elimination of competition from the fan I found an excellent guitar.
Try playing in a swivel chair- rotate around and listen to how the sound changes. It will really help you to tell if you are hearing room induced distortions.

I've posted before that my best acoustics at home are in my studio (the tiled bathroom, with the shower curtain pulled back, out of the way).
Anytime I want the best sound from my Guild(s) or if I'm seriously working on a song, my studio is the place for me!
And I can do other stuff in there, too!

Keep enjoying that new Guild,
Joe

That might be just a little bit TMI, Joe. :)

One thing that tempted me to bid on my GSR-F40 was the way it was trimmed out. I was looking for the F40 size and thought this one had almost exactly what I would order from Guild if I was ordering custom( if you could do that which you can't). It has multiply top binding - ivoroid w/b/w/b 4 ply, a subtle abalone ring at the soundhole, gold hardware, a very nice 12th fret G insignia, it has bling, but it doesn't over do it at all.
2 things I wish were different- I love a back stripe and this has none. and the bridge lacks the 2 little points that signify Guild to me. When I see a guitar from across the room and try to identify it there a few things that indicate the brand- Taylors bridges always give them away, Martin headstocks, and on Guilds I look at the bridge, pickguard and headstock shape to try and distinguish it from others. This GSR-F40 has a pretty generic belly bridge rather than the distinctive Guild pointed bridge.
Is that something that the New Hartford builds are doing?

Nope. This bridge has existed on all F-30s and F-40s since forever ago.

Y'know you just made me realize that in my never-ending search for the perfect stool I never considered the throne room... and I might still never consider it.
