Ran across a local D-50 this week, and was able to negotiate a swap for it. My D-30 and a bit of cash. I hated to let the D-30 go, as it was a favorite. But a D-50... you all know what I mean.

This is an early 1981, as far as I can tell. Cosmetically about perfect, but needs to be setup better. I'm sure my luthier guy will have it singing in no time, though.

Here are a few pictures. This is just as it came in the door:

And the TRC is good!!!

Nice log Dave!
Funny, I called a guy yesterday who was selling one in Brevard on CL..... Would it be the one?....
It looks very clean, congratulations!

Thanks, Pascal. Yeah, I would think it was the same one. I don't often see a Guild on our CL. Orlando gets a few (Nice F-412 there now!) but not over here in the sticks.

Yeah Dave, I saw that F412..... Had it been a 512 I would have zoomed up the turnpike without looking back for a second....
How does that 50 sound before set up? How does it compare to the 30?

How does it sound? It's way different from the D-30. Darker. Less delicate.

It seems a little weak, compared to my Martin, which is another rosewood dread. The seller replaced the saddle and really shaved it low in preparation for a transducer which he never got around to installing. I could spend a bit of money with my luthier to get it right, and still be in the guitar for a reasonable price. The guy did wonders with my D-25, so I'm feeling pretty good about the prospects.

Time will tell, though.

Very nice score, Dave!
Certainly makes me want another, especially when I look at that beautiful rosewood on the back.
Makes my knees weak!

Enjoy,
Joe

Gotta love the rosewood. And the zipper up the back!

Thanks, guys. I need the support as I mourn the missing D-30.

Very nice score. Looks like she's in terrific shape.

Let us know how it goes with the luthier.

Nice snag, Dave. I'll bet a good setup will bring her up to par. My '76 D-50 is far and away my loudest Guild... actually poses a bit of a problem with my less than strong singing voice. I have to tone down the playing quite a bit to hear myself. Given that my 46 and 55 held their own the only time I played 'em against a Martin, I would say the 50 should stand out.

Anyway, congrats and enjoy!

Dang Dave, somehow I missed this thread.

That D50 is a dead ringer for my '73, which has been in Nashville since March. Man do I miss that one. Good luck with it, and play it in good health. D50s are the best of the Guild dreads (that I've played, anyway) IMHO.
