Could anyone please tell me the approximate value of a Blonde 1978 Guild G37 in pristine condition? Also, if the top, sides, or back is laminate? I can only find bits ad pieces of info on this particular model. Thanks very much in advance!

Here's a quick link to some information about the G-37. http://westerlyguildguitars.com/guitars/g37.html

I think it had an arched back which means the back should be laminate and the sides solid. I had a solid spruce top. I have some notes acquired on this forum) that say it was renumbered as a D-30 after 1987. Others may post with additional or more correct information.

I don't have a clue about the price.

By the way. Welcome to LTG. If you're interested in Guild guitars this is the place to hang out.

Cheers -

Yes it has an arched back which is laminated. Sides are solid maple and the top is spruce. I have an '81. Not too sure on price but I am going to guess that in pristine condition a fair price may be in the $800-$900 range.

That's what I would think on the price, Mr. Crank, in the sense that a brick and mortar music store would sell it for that. Insurance value.
I helped a friend buy one in '86 or so. Sounded good then, sounded good now. Didn't have a great case. When asked a few years ago, I told him we could sell it for $750 fairly quickly. He decided to keep it.

According to the 2013 Vintage Guide, a G37 from any year made ('73 to '86) ranges from $575 to $700.

And welcome to LTG!

If it really is pristine as you said, I'd try for $950.

I had a '76 G-37 for many years. It was far from pristine but sounded incredible. I sold it locally two years ago for $800 via CL.

I think G-37's are very special instruments. I'll be adding another somewhere down the line.

I get what you mean. I have a buddy with one (74?), incredible guitar, sustain wise. I think you're saying what I've said about my D25, I'd personally actually value a very very good one over book.
Heck I'd value his guitar that way too.

FWIW, I think that book on the G37 is too low, also. I think the G37, and it's reincarnation to the D-30, can be really special.

I agree with Dave, G37s are darn nice guitars. Seems to me the general guitar buying public is not too keen on plywood (high grade laminate) Guilds, thus the relatively low values in price guides.

Mine is a bit on the heavy side but it has a noticeably live feel & sound, considerably louder than my D25 with a sweet, bright voice & plays very well. They occasionally come up for sale here, usually advertised in the $800 range & tend to hang on Craigslist for a while at that price, wouldn't know the actual selling prices I paid $500 for mine a few years back + another $125 or so for minor repairs & setup. Took some patience to find one at that price, very likely the best bang for the buck in my herd.

Impresses me as an exceptionally tough guitar, capable of surviving considerable abuse.

I picked up a nice one several years ago for $725. Seems to me the range in the past year or so has been $650 to $800 depending upon the usual variables. Would be glad to pass along to someone for the same price. (FYI my goal of someday having only a dozen Guilds is still a ways off!)

Just bought one on *bay for $720. It was advertised as an '84 but the serial number on the back of the headstock appears to show it as a '76. I've been wanting a maple acoustic for a while and also wanting a Guild, so this one fills the bill for both. Can't wait to get my hands on it!

Hey I see a first post. Welcome aboard!
Helluvaway to get into Guilds!
If you hadn't noticed, there's also a ton of guys who'll beg you for pics when you get 'it.
Me, I'm kinda curious about that serial number.
Keep us posted!

I have had my 74 g37 since 74! She is so sweet and broken in. I've had her on planes and boats! I was once offered 1100.00! Back when I was playing a gig. I would value it in pristine condition at 950 -1200!

A 1978 likely has the maple next, while the earlier ones have mahogany necks (think they switched around 76), thus the heavier feel...I have been looking at a couple locally (Detroit) for the last few months...Thought I had a deal for a 1980 at $650 (without a case), but the guy backed out...Reverb has them for sale for $1,600+, but the sold ones are about $700-900+-...The one i wanted had a neck reset done...My luthier says it is a pretty good job, but had a couple blemishes...A 78 may be due for a reset if not already done...So pristine would likely be the higher end-$900-1,000...Just my thoughts...Dave...

Bummer.....at those prices I was going to get one!!!!!
Here is the reverb price guide. You can use ones that have actually sold as reference. They haven't gone up much and honestly at up to $1100, these guitars are a total steal.
