Had the pleasure of meeting Tom Cummings (AKA Silverfox103) at the shop today. He and his lovely wife stopped in to say hello and to check out the restored Mark VI Artist Special. Here's a little cell-phone recording of Tom playing the guitar. Thanks, Tom!

I don't do much media on the interweb, so I don't know why it won't embed. But please just click it if you wish to see the video.

I'm getting the video, but no sound, Dave. (Yes, I checked for mute.)

Working ok for me, but that doesn't help. I'll have to try something else.

It must not like me; now it won’t even show me the page.
Were you guys on iPads/iphones? Maybe it’s an iOS thing.

Gah! You jinxed me! 9 minutes later and I get a "page not found". Well, I enjoyed it when I watched it!

No sound for me in the web browser (Safari 11.0.3 on Mac OS 10.13.3), and if you download it it won't play at all in QuickTime. However, it seems to play just fine with VLC player, the Swiss Army Knife of video players. Good to see that guitar (and pal Tom) in action!

I think I was fooling around with files and formats as you were hitting the link. Sorry!

Works great for me on both my home computer and Samsung phone. That is a good sounding guitar even on cell phone video and nice playing Silverfox!

it wouldn't play on my iMac, until I downloaded it and opened it with VLC, per Sandy's suggestion.

Nice to hear the guitar and nice to hear Tom play it.

Thanks, everybody!

In the winter we're about 4 hours from Dave and Tom. So, just happens we went to FL for a couple of days, in the Cape Canaveral area, in their back yard. There definitely were ulterior motives, as I was drawn to the Mark VII, at least to touch. Wow, the pictures do not do Tom's work justice. He did a beautiful job; words cannot describe. If there's a better looking Mark VI Artist Special / Mark VII, I'd like to see it. I've seen the one with the water glass stain on the top on Reverb now, and the other one that was strummed, that's tough to look at.

It played and sounded very good, granted I won't be confused with Segovia. It was set up exactly how I like, and I am a fussy old ba tard. It is very similar to my Mark VI, which is not an Artist special. I hope someone from the LTG who appreciates what this is, snatches it up. As they say on Antique Roadshow "it has provenance". Starting from eagle eye Toni saving the guitar and Tom bringing it back from the dead.

And a big thanks to Dave for sending us to a great seafood restaurant, overlooking the port.

Tom

This is just a great story that keeps getting better!!! Tom, glad you made it down there for a visit! It's really great to see the LTG community excited about something again!

So, the dust has settled, and we've been discussing the future of the
Mark VI Artist Special. We feel that we should put it out here for any
LTGers that might be interested in owning it. You all know the back-story
of this particular instrument and the rarity of the Mark VI Artist Special.

As you know, a ton of work went into the restoration. Similar projects
we've done for our customers have run to $2000 or more. While we don't
expect to recoup all the repair costs (that "labor of love" thing applies),
we can't afford to go too far into the hole, either.

Anyway, the Mark VI Artist Special is available. You can PM an offer to
either me or to Tom (aka fixit). We'll take the highest offer over $1500.
Just can't afford to go lower than that. The buyer would also be responsible
for any shipping costs.

We think it sounds great! Very good bass response and lots of those rosewood overtones. The action is good as well. We have had a few customers that have played it, along with one pro player from one of the Cruise Ships that home ports here in Port Canaveral. He actually had some good classical chops. Everyone that has played it has liked it so far. That back is so shiny that we have had a hard time photographing it and showing off the grain in the BRW. It looks even better in person.

Fixit

Try to have the guitar reflect onto a pure black background - the more matte the better. That will remove much of the reflection and let the grain shine through.
