Thanks guys, I appreciate the kind words. There was a little planning that went into that room. In fact, when we built the house, I had the carpenters install a horizontal 2"x 6" wall stud, the length of the guitar rack..........just to be damned sure I could anchor that sucker to the wall exactly where I wanted. Overkill, but it gave me the luxury of sticking my lag bolts wherever I needed to.

Thanks Tom. One of the primary reasons for the swivel hangers, and angling the guitars was to save space. I like the way it looks, but the real reason was space saving.

GREAT setup, Jim!! I love the way you can angle the guitars instead of having them flat against the wall. :encouragement:

West, I was searching for the pictures you posted a couple of years back as you were building your home. I thought the place was beautiful and was just wanting to look at them again.

Peace

I have studio lighting above mine (a serious heat source)
Jim, did you look to maybe replace them with LED spots in the same lampshades? They wouldn't produce much heat at all and you could use them all year round.

Seriously Ralf, those lights are on for a short amount of time a couple of times a year, and when they are, I've got a dimmer on them and they're turned WAY down. The shot I posted with them on, and turned up was just that.....for the picture. I assure you, heat is not an issue there.

Here ya go Doc. Somewhere in that thread is John Kidder recommending the hangers I used. I bought them on ebay and couldn't be happier.

Sure, I understood that this is no issue in your case, it was just a general comment that nowadays LED spots are available for such kind of purpose, so one would not have to think about heat at all.

Yes sir, and you know, the sky and your imagination are the limit if one wants to display their guitars. One of my favorite projects, and so very easy to do. I had considered doing a shadow box with lighting, but in the end, decided to go the easier route.

Dave,

Do you any concern about the hangers or the stands affecting a nitro finish?
I haven't seen any finish problems after 5-6 years of hanging on Hercules hangers (and sadly, some of those on hangers go a month at a time between being played).

Not with Hercules hangers or stands. They absolutely will not damage nitro. Mine have been on those hangers for the better part of 6 years, and the headstocks look like new. I had a stand once that was just beginning to eat right through the nitro, but I was lucky enough to catch it in time. The scuffs polished right out. That happened in a very short amount of time......like two weeks, and there's no doubt in my mind that if I hadn't caught it, the reaction would have gone right through the finish. So I was absolutely anal about finding hangers/stands that were nitro friendly.

This is the stand that ate the finish off of my guitar. If you look closely, you'll see a small rectangular patch where the back rests. It is that small patch that began to eat my finish. Since then, I've seen a many a guitar that has a small rectangle eaten through the finish, and there's no doubt in my mind what caused it. They also say that the rubber tubing found on some stands will eat through nitro.

Buy Hercules stands or hangers and don't give it another thought.
