She still looks very good for 65.

She sure does. My bride is always spending a small fortune having her grey hairs colored, and I tell her that Emmylou still looks awesome with a headful of greys. It doesn't faze her much though.

Be careful Sandy, she goes through husbands. I think atleast 4, but who's counting.

Who cares? Heck, I could sue her for alimony.

Saw her back in the '80's and of course she was great. I don't remember her guitar player but that guy was great. They did a couple of jazz tunes and he tore it up. I then realized she was much more than what we hear on radio.

Wow, what a career Emmylou has had!! Although her early works are classics and set a standard, I think Wrecking Ball is probably my all-time favorite. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, EH!!

You might have heard Albert Lee . . . he played guitar with Emmylou's Hot Band awhile back (probably more like mid- to late-1970's, though).

Here's a gratuitous Emmylou + Albert Lee clip from 1978: Ain't Living Long Like This

No, it wasn't Albert. Obviously she did introduce him but I just don't remember the name. I'll try and find out as I've been curious all these years. I remember we sat in the second row and after one song he played I was blown away and said (or yelled out) "Great playing man!". After that he turned my way, nodded and for the rest of the show during his parts he would turn to me. Alas, even after showing me his fingering and chord technique it still didn't help my playing in the least . I do remember that after that show I wanted to learn jazz/swing real bad.

off her most recent (and fantastic) release
This is a superb song. I also like that splendid Gibson SJ 300 rosewood that Ms. Emma Lou is playing. This song has a nice Rolling Stones "Satisfaction" beat to it.

And I also just have one thing to say, everybody got to jump back, cuz I saw her first!

Really though, I have been a fan along time, and I play a few of her songs- even singing them with my voice, and oh yes, I also have made one into a 12 string song.

She is almost exactly three years my junior, my bday is later this month.
She is the main reason I started back into guitar about 4-5 years ago. I was watching a youTube of her doing "Leaving Louisiana in the Broad Daylight", and realized she was doing cowboy chords, capo fifth fret, and realized I can do that. Of course there is the minor problem that I don't sound like her, and I sure as hell don't look as good as she does
I play a lot of her songs, although only one she wrote. She has an uncanny ability to find great songwriters, I almost think she was playing Townes before he was. Another find was early in Gillian Welch's career, and doing Paul Siebel material ("Spanish Johnny").
My favorite album is "Quarter Moon in a Ten Cent Town", which she apparently hates, reportedly she said the best thing about it was the cover art. Go figure.
Many of her covers and songs sound real nice on a 12, three that come to mind that I do that way are "Red Dirt Girl", "Born to Run" and "Two More Bottles of Wine". Of course the way to do her rocking material is on a real jumbo such as a Gibson SJ, a Guild JF or a Martin GJ.
She is a real American treasure.

Harmony H-173 bought in 1960 (retired), Alvarez AC60S 2008, Eastman AC320ce 2009 "Hybrid", Guild D25M 1974, Martin Grand J35E 2009, Martin D12-20 1970, Martin OM-21 2009, Martin 00-15M Custom (full body gloss, wide neck) 2011, Voyage-air VAOM-06 2010
"I'm glad there are a lot of guitar players pursuing technique as diligently as they possibly can, because it leaves this whole other area open to people like me."

Sorry boys, she's never done it for me and
OK, so Emmy Lou has a deer in the headlights look in 2corgi's posted song. But there's an aspect to it. If we have survived the hippy era, and lived to tell, our tastes might be a bit biased. I can recall my Dad saying he (hated that sh**) when he looked at hippy girls with long hair, blue jeans, and possibly no bra on.

Perhaps Emmy Lou was one of the first "hippy chicks" to become a successful country artist. So its all a matter of presentation. Don't knock me for it, but Marilyn Monroe still doesn't really turn me on (much).

When I saw Emmy Lou play in Pasadena, CA many years ago, you could stand in line to talk to her on her tour bus. I had the privilege of getting her autograph, and the security personnel let me talk to her one-on-one for a nice length of time. I was very surprised that it was such a personal setting. In a way she was one of the "staightest" hippy women that there ever has been.

There's only one more item. Anyone that has played at length with Rodney Crowell, James Burton, Steve Earl, Albert Lee, Dolly, and Linda Ronstadt has to at least have a few things going on somehow, some way.

Welp, I know I'm in the minority here (and everywhere else), but I wouldn't walk across the street to see/hear Emmylou sing. Or to look at her either.

Sorry boys, she's never done it for me and never will.

On the other hand, there's always Mary Ann...

Well, everyone is certainly entitled to their opinion I suppose. That's why there's so much variety in music and in life. Different strokes and all.

Well, yeah, if it is really bashing but a lot of the time it is just conversations about differing opinions and sometimes I learn the most from those who disagree with me.

Given that we once had a Beatles "tribute" thread that drifted from tribute to "they're overrated" to bashing to angry departures from LTG, never to return, if it ever goes from conversation to bashing consider reporting it. That will at least make sure a moderator is watching.

For the record, I recognize the name but cannot recall ever listening to her music. That might change.

I don't own any Emmylou Harris albums nor will I. I only saw her because I was given tickets to her concert. I'm not what you would call an Emmylou Harris "fan". While I do respect her and enjoy some of her songs I'm not offended when somebody says they don't like her. Thats not the point I was getting at.
