Inherited my brother's F212XL 12 string. Serial number 17784. No label inside. I've reviewed the Guild charts and it appears it might be a 1961. What do you think?

Not that they're gospel but the charts on the Westery site shows 1979. Of course the author of the Guild "bible" may come along and assist.

Take a peek inside the guitar at the block near the neck. There maybe a date stamped there. It is not necessarily the finished build date but can pin it down a bit.

Great guitars!

Hello cathy,

Welcome! That serial number would not be possible for an F-212XL. Can you check on the back of the headstock if you maybe missed a digit when you made a note of the serial number?

Sincerely,

Hi Hans,

Posted photo. I was confused about the first digit. Is it a 1 or an I? Or maybe it's 1I7784?

It was hard to read the type on the inside, but it's definitely F-212XL. Appreciate your quick response. xCathy

Hello Cathy,

That's a number one and a 'capital' i serving as a 1. They did that for a while during the '70s until they got an extra set of numbers.
There's an older thread somewhere in which I've explained it some time ago.

So your F-212XL is from the year 1975.

Sincerely,

Thank you. This is so helpful. In good shape, can you recommend appropriate range as asking price if I were to sell it?

Cathy,

Welcome aboard.

Much depends upon the condition of the guitar. I'd imagine there's a pretty wide range of sale prices on old F-212XLs, but I'm not as tuned into it these days. The market has changed quite radically over the last few years.

Good luck.

Oh, and please note that you can't list it here until you've participated more on LTG.
