Volkswagen (pronounced) "Folks-Vaggin" = Peoples' car. English inherited "folk" (as in 'Hey, folks!' or 'Folk music') from the German Volk. I think Germany may have inherited the Beetle from Ancient Egypt.
If you look in a Webster dictionary, there is a page on language origins. The English language has a direct line to Germanic...and then to Latin. Shakespearean English is very Germanic in structure. Right down to counting numbers, where you would say One and Fourty, not Fourty One. There are countless interchangeable words between the two languages, often w/ interchangeable hard consonants. Like T and Z, F and V, etc.

Just stopping in because I had to haul the computer to an internet source to make some online payments and I really miss all of you.

I appreciate the concern over my absence. I'm hoping it wont be toooo much longer, but we'll see.
Good to hear from you, Cynthia.

Rocky,
The lads from Liverpool, the Beatles, to whom you refer never made music that sounded like dung.

If Egyptian theory is true, the car could have wound up named the Volkswagen Scarab.

^ Which side is even the front or the back of that car? That thing looks like a nightmare to drive. Horrible turning radius, like an old Rolls Royce! Iā€™ve driven a Silver Cloud before and making a 10 pt turn w/ manual steering was no fun. I found the car to be a complete pile of junk in a fancy wrapper.
