Does anybody know if Word's D25 is a custom color? Has anybody seen that color before?

Word,
Do you see anything marked on the paper label like "Spec" for special, or "cus" for custom? Are the ebay pics accurate reprsentations of what the color is?

Nope from what i see of the paper label is it says d25 with the serial #CPH000413. It is a deeper red/brown than i've seen on most other d25s but i assumed that that was only because it was a mahogany top as opposed to most D25s which have a spruce top. What i found weird though was since it is a mahogany top shouldnt it be labeled D25M and not just D25?

it could be that there was insufficient lighting in the store when they took the pic causing the guitar to appear more red than usual, im guessing?

Darryl,

It almost looks as with Words guitar, they tried to finish it to resemble my D-25M. The M has a little higher gloss finish though, however the colors are close.

Ken,

I remember sometime back sitting in the shop of the local Taylor dealer and playing all of them. I swear to you, until you got to the 700 series Taylors, I saw some of the shoddiest workmanship to I've ever seen in a guitar. I'm talking about things like huge gaps between the heel and the body, some filled with puddy. I did play an 810 Taylor that felt and sounded pretty good, not as good as our 72's, but a good sounding guitar. Of course, it retailes for $4000 some odd dollars.

Word,

Are you getting the impression we like our old Guilds?

do u guys think i got ripped off? because, now that you guys have mentioned it, the shade is really different from most other D25s....Also, they state in the auction that it is coated with nitrocellulose gloss but from the looks of it it looks like its satin finished...=]

Word,

The best D25 I ever heard (according to my ear) had a mahogany top.

Ken,
A friend of mine has a Taylor Brazilian 12, and my Indian 512 tops it (inho).

The colour

I can say without a glimmer of doubt that often a photograph DOESN'T represent colour well due to lighting, transfers on digital pics and more. So, you'll really have to wait and see. However, I used to have late 70's D-25 that was "wine" coloured. They called it dark mahogany, but it was definitely similar to what I see in the photos. I don't know of any marking that denotes seconds in Guild's but the label tells you that it's a Corona-made Guild and that means a new shop doing the colours. A store I visit a lot had a dozen or so Corona D-25s and they were some of the strangest (and ugliest) finish colours I had ever had the opportunity to see. Never thought I would see Guild acoustics in those "shades". But, Word, let's not let our conversations frighten you - wait until the guitar arrives. If you are happy iwth it - you're in the pink. If you are not happy, denote the reasons and send it back. But, wait and see. Shouldn't be long now. Peace, dbs

Word,

That's some pretty good advice from Smith. You know, many times you can take two of the same model, by the same manufacturer and they sound a little different from each other. Be patient and just check it out when it gets there.

Like Smith said, if you don't like it, send it back or stick that sucker on Ebay, chalk it up to experience and get another.

Let us know when it gets there. I'd like to know what you think.
