Hey guys! I just wanted to tell everybody that i received my new D-25 via FEDEX earlier this afternoon. it came boxed and also inside a Guild hardshell case. To be honest, i think i built up the guitar too much in my mind. I had read through many reviews saying that the guitar body-wise as well as concerningh durability was a "tank" but when i pulled it out of its case seemed slightly fragile and "smallish" in fact i lined it up next to my epi dred just to make sure they were the same size... The pictures were pretty accurate for some reason the guitar is a wine-ish type reddish brown. Not at all like any of the d25s that i've seen online. When i picked it up it felt lighter than my epi and more closer to how my stepbro's baby tyalor felt so it planted more seeds of suspicion in my head that i may have indeed received a lemon.
When i started to play it the tone was very different from my epi. I dunno, again i wasnt really too impressed i was expecting each not to ring out when i do a full strum but it kind of sounded "muddied" (if that is a term). In comparison i tried out my epi and it had a more janglier tone. I figured it might be the strings, since the strings on my epi are only about a month old..But when i checked out the strings on the d25 it had a bright look to it so i figured it cant be that old..Also i did a sort of strum test where i laid them both against my couch and strummed them with the same strength-degree and my epi sounded a bit fuller and louder and the laminated top resonated more, which scared me...Could it be because the top has to "break-in?"
However, i since have been playing it for awhile now and ive begun to warm to it. The fretboard is really easy to play on, as opposed to my epi where after awhile it hurts..also the finish has really begun to grow on me it looks like a guitar from the 70s with that deep-red color...I dont have a digital camera but i might be able to get a friend to take some pix of it next to my epi so u guys can compare...Also, im gonna pick up some strings tonight (any suggestions? i usually go with D'Addario EJ 16s, though ive heard John Pearce is good). Lastly im gonna try to record myself playing the two guitars so u guys can compare..I know the majority of my post sounds negative but ultimately this guitar is beginning to grow on me. Also i was wrong about the serial number it is CPM000413 and it looks like standard guild tuners..Tusq saddle (or plastic =[) definitely not bone as stated by seller and a satin finish. Ok well let me know what u guys think hehe...I guess the tone can be called "warm" as its not totally muddy but its not jangly like my epi
